Death of Walter F. Chantler

   The many friends of Walter Chantler in this vicinity will regret to learn of
his death which occurred at his home in Morgan Hill on Sunday, January 5 after a
protracted illness.  Mr. Chantler was born in England February 9, 1852, and his
parents crossed the ocean the same year to found a home in the state of New
York, where his boyhood days were passed.  Later they moved to Minnesota.  While
a resident of that state he was united in marriage to Miss Ida M. Smith.  Mr.
and Mrs. Chantler moved to California in 1890 and for 12 years lived near Gilroy
in the Solis district.  In June of last year they became domiciled in a cozy new
home in Morgan Hill, where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Bristow,
of the M. E. church, at ten o’clock, Tuesday.  A ladies trio sweetly rendered
“Nearer My God to Thee.”  Interment followed at the Odd Fellow’s cemetery,
Gilroy.  A widow and three children, Irvin Chantler, and Mrs. Clarence Craig of
Morgan Hill, and Mrs. W. H. Patton of Solis district, are left to mourn his
loss, also a brother, Charles Chantler of the Solis District.  He was a citizen
of sterling worth and of unimpeachable integrity, respected by all for his
upright principles, and loved by those who knew him best, for his kind, generous
and thoughtful disposition.
