Lamon Verne Harkness, aged 65, 3rd vice president of the Standard Oil Company, 2nd 
largest stockholder in that company and an early associate of John D. Rockefeller, 
died Sunday morning at 6 o'clock at the Pacines rancho, in San Benito County, 
fifteen miles south of Hollister, the California residence of his daughter, Mrs. 
A. M. Macomber.  The body was shipped to New York, where it will repose in the 
family mausoleum.  Harkness was the largest income tax payer west of Chicago.  He 
was reported to be worth $80,000,000 to $100,000,000 and his income has been 
$200,000 per month.
