Death of W. L. Harkness

   The community was saddened on Wednesday to hear of the death of William LeRoy
Harkness, who passed away at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H.
Harkness, in Paradise Valley May 15th, at the age of 35 years.  He leaves to
mourn his loss his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Harkness, and five brothers, Guy,
Ray, Tom, Paul, and Glenn Harkness.  He had only been critically ill for about
two weeks and his death was a shock to his many friends.
   Funeral services will be conducted at the J. H. Harkness home at 1 o’clock
today and at 2:30 at Oak Hill Cemetery, San Jose, where the interment will take
place.  Much sympathy is felt for the family in their bereavement as this is the
third death within a few years.


Additional Comments:
William was a son of Joseph H. & Catherine Harkness.  All members of this family
were born in Pennsylvania, per the 1910 census.  Since youngest brother, Glenn,
was born October 5, 1901 in Pennsylvania, it is clear that the Harkness family
had been in Morgan Hill no more than 10 years at the time of William's death.

The 1900 Census states that Catherine had nine children with seven living at
that time.
