When he was 17 years of age he left home on a whaling ship and landed at a Chilean port. He was there but a few weeks when he sailed for America, landing in New Orleans just at the outbreak of the Civil war in '61. Here he entered the employ of a Mr. Craft and worked for him for two years. Deciding to strike out for himself, he again moved. This time is was the vicinity of Halfmoon Bay and Marysville. Here he purchased some property and started a winerey and distillery business. He was married to Miss Rosie Fonts and his several business ventures proving successful he moved to Santa Clara. Here his first wife died. After remaining a widower for several years, he married Merisanna Vinces and settled down on his home on the Jacklin Road. Mr. Machado passed away on February 8 in his seventy-fifth year at the O'Connor sanitarioum where he had been confined for the past two weeks. Death was caused by acute dilatation of the heart. He is survived by three children, Anthony J., Joseph F. and Mary Machado. All arrangments for the funeral are in the hands of T. McNally Sons. Additional Comments: This is actually a news article.
