The family had retired for the night before leaving water in the bath tub. In the morning the parents arose, leaving the child sleeping. Later on when Mrs. May went to see if the baby was awake found the bed empty, and upon searching further found the almost lifeless body of her child in the water in the bath tub with her doll. The supposition is that she was giving her doll a bath and fell in herself. Medical assistance was called and every effort was made to resuscitate the little one, but without avail. Hazel Grace was 2 years and one month old and a very bright and lovable child. She was the only child of her parents, for whom deep sympathy is felt throughout the community. A short funeral service was conducted by Rev. H. H. Buckner at the family residence on Saturday morning and then the body was taken to Modesto by automobile for interment. Mrs. May’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Outland, came over from Modesto to take Mr. and Mrs. May in their automobile, and Clarence Goshey took the body over in his machine.
