“John Rea Goes To Last Rest
Gilroy, July 4. – Funeral services were held this morning for John “Torchy” Rea, 
local bank official and scion of a pioneer local family at the Elks lodgerooms 
[sic] with Exalted Ruler William Fitzgerald directing.  The American Legion held 
graveside services.  Archdean Noel Porter of San Francisco delivered the sermon.

Mr. Rea died Thursday at Livermore Hospital where he was taken when a long 
illness became critical.  For the past 15 years he has been employed by the Bank 
of America and the Bank of Gilroy.  He is survived by two brothers, Fred and 
Rocky Rea of Gilroy; two sisters, Mrs. Louis Radin and Miss Virginia Rea, also 
of Gilroy; his mother, Mrs. Catherine Rea, and his wife, Mrs. Josephine Rea.”
