Morgan Hill Times, February 28, 1919


Mrs. Lucy M. Sterrett

   Mrs. Lucy M. Sterrett who passed away recently was formerly a well known
resident of Morgan Hill.
   Mrs. Sterrett was born at Westfield, New York in 1831 and spent the greater
part of her life in Pennsylvania.  She came to Morgan Hill twelve years ago to
make her home with her son, A. C. Sterrett.  During her residence here she made
many friends to whom she was endeared by her kind and sympathetic nature.
   A year ago last August Mrs. Sterrett went to Upland to visit her son, and
soon after met with an accident which rendered her helpless and cause her much
suffering.  She passed away Feb. 7th at Upland, Cal., and was buried Feb. 10 in
the Upland Cemetery.  The Rev. F. E. Kent of the Upland Methodist church
officiated at the funeral.
   Mrs. Sterrett leaves two daughters, Mrs. H. H. Fulton of Fairfield, Iowa, and
Mrs. Millie Throop of Erie, Pennsylvania, and two sons, W. N. Goodban of Upland
and A. C. Sterrett of Morgan Hill.


Additional Comments:
Lucy Abbey married first Edward Goodban, who died in 1857.  Lucy was living with
her father and mother-in-law, William & Margaret Goodban, in Erie County,
Pennsylvania in 1860.  With her were her children with Edward: Ella G, born
about 1854, Wilbur F., born about 1855, and Mina M. Goodban, born about 1857,
all born in Pennsylvania.  By 1870 Lucy has married James C. Sterrett.  They
have two children, Andrew C., born about 1864, and Millie, born about 1865, both
born in Pennsylvania.

Lucy came to Morgan Hill, Santa Clara County, to stay with her son, Andrew C.
Sterrett.  

Her son, Wilbur F. Goodban (b. 10/28/1854, died 11/15/1945 per CA death records)
lived in Ontario, San Bernardino County, California, with his wife, Iva L.
McMaster.  Iva died in 1912 and is buried in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery,
Ontario, San Bernardino County, California.  It is possible that Lucy is buried
in this cemetery.


Daughter Amelia "Millie" married Frank W. Throop and daughter Mina married
Horace H. Fulton.  

Currently, there is NO Upland Cemetery.
