Effie Gertrude Thomas at Rest

     Effie Gertrude Thomas passed away at 2 o’clock Thursday morning, October 5,
1916, at the home of her parents on Hill road, aged 11 years, 8 months and 7 days.
     Effie Gertrude was the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Newton Thomas.  She was
born in Morgan Hill on the 28th of January, 1905.  About a year ago she was
taken sick with diabetes and a long, hard fight was made to overcome the disease
but to no avail.  She was able to up and and attended school on Tuesday.  Toward
afternoon she became quite sick and after being taken home grew rapidly worse
until the end came to relieve her patient sufferings.  She was a very bright,
lovable, ambitious child and her little classmates in the Fifth grade are deeply
saddened by her death.  She also leaves to mourn her sweet presence besides her
parents two younger sisters, Evelyn and Charlotte, and a little brother, Elgin.
 The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community is with the family in their sorrow.
     The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the
Presbyterian Church.

Additional Comments:
Effie was a daughter of Newton E. Thomas and his first wife, Laura Amanda
Stephens.  She was the granddaughter of George Stephens & Jane "Jennie"
Elizabeth Wetmur Stephens and Eleazer and Gwendolyn Thomas.  Effie was buried in
the same plot as her parents in Mount Hope Cemetery, Morgan Hill, Santa Clara
County, California.
