VAN GORDEN DIES WAITING NEWS FROM SON. Mrs. Lora Emery Van Gorden died today without hearing the news she had been waiting for - that her son, Sgt. Emery S. Van Gorden, had been released from the Italian prison camp in which he has been interned for nearly a year. The final weeks of Mrs. Van Gorden's long illness were made happier by the knowledge of Italy's surrender and the hope that Allied forces would soon occupy the northern part of Italy where her son's prison camp is located. Mrs. Van Gorden was a native of Alvarado and had lived in this community for the past 41 years. The family home is at 4261 El Camino [Real]. In addition to her son, she is survived by her husband, Sherman Van Gorden; two brothes, Guy Emery of Sacramento, and Roy Emery of San Francisco, and by four sisters, Mrs. Blanche E. Richmond of Richmond; Mrs. Inez Fitzgerald of Palo Alto; Mrs. Alyth Irish of Oakland, and Mrs. Barbara Walton of Pennsylvania. Funeral services will be at 2 o'clock Saturday [November 20] afternoon at the Tinney Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Alta Mesa Memorial Park."
