Redmond Will filed in Will Book A, County Records, San Jose, Santa Clara County, California Dated: September 11, 1855 Recorded May 5, 1858 Redmond Park, Santa Clara, State of California, September 11, 1855 I, Joshua W. Redmond, knowing that it is appointed once for all men to die and after this to Judgement come, I hereby being weak of body, but sound disposed in mind and memory do make, constitute and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all others and declare this to be my last Will and Testament. First, I constitute and appoint my son, Roger Augustus Redmond, to be my sole executor and I further declare that no security shall be required of him for the faithful performance of the duties herein directed and it is my request and direction that he shall divide my estate either in kind or parcel as he may deem best between my several children and my wife, Sarah, equally, and I further direct and request that he shall proceed to discharge the several duties herein enjoined as if I were myself living, could or might lawfully do. I hereby except in the divisions I have above mentioned my horse and carriage which I give and bequeath to my son, Roger Augustus Redmond, my gold watch and chains I hereby except, also, and give them to my son Victor Leonidas Redmond of Missouri. I also except and give and bequeath to my daughter, Sarah Jane Redmond of Missouri my gold pencil and chain with my name graven thereon. J. W. Redmond {SEAl} Witnesses: Charles Parr Arthur W. Saxe Additional Comments: According to a DAR transcription, Joshua W Redmond died April 6, 1857, being between fifty and sixty years of age at the time of his death. It may be he actually died in April 1858 as his will was recorded in May 1858. Redmond Park was a home in Santa Clara that burned down in 1862: The Marysville Appeal, Marysville, California, 17 August 1862, page 3, column 3: "Fire in Santa Clara. - The beautiful palace, known as the Redmond Park," in Santa Clara, was consumed by fire, at an early hour on Monday morning last, together with the barns adjacent. It was the most beautiful and expensive private residence in Santa Clara. The fire is supposed to be the work of an incendiary - Mercury."
