Passing of Siskiyou Pioneer
J. R. Patterson died at his home in San Jose Saturday, February 10 (1912), at 
9:45 a.m. There were present at his bedside his two daughters, Mrs. Chas. 
Miller and Miss Etta Patterson, Albert Conner of Berkeley, a nephew, and Rev. 
J. E. Wright, an old-time friend who had been summoned the evening before his 
death and who reached his bedside about twenty minutes before he died and 
while he was still conscious. Mr. Patterson had been poorly for several months 
but his serious and fatal illness was of but four days length.
Services were held in his home in San Jose on February 12, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. 
J. E. Wright officiating.
As soon as his daughter, Miss Etta Patterson, is able to travel, the body will 
be brought to Yreka and funeral services held in the Methodist church and the 
body placed in the family plot.
Mr. Patterson was one of the earliest pioneers of this county, having come to 
Siskiyou in 1845 or ‘46, and took part in many of the interesting events of 
those exciting days. He was 90 years of age. His son, H. H. Patterson of 
Edgewood, is in San Diego this winter.
