(1880) Nay, Samuel A. Born in Hillsborough county, N. H., Feb. 18, 1830; was educated here and learned the carpenter's trade. In 1852 he emigrated to California via Panama, arriving at San Francisco April 1, 1852. He proceeded at once to the redwoods in Marin county. After a residence here of seven months he engaged in farming for two years, after which he embarked in the dairy and wood business which he continued until the Fall of 1869 at which time he came to this county and settled on his present place located about two and one-half miles north of Petaluma. Married, in 1858, Miss Sarah E. Winnans. She was born in Ohio, July 31, 1840. By this union they have three children, Charles, J. born March 14, 1860, Herbert L., May 9, 1861, and Frank G., October 25, 1871.
