Born in Orange county, Missouri, June 28, 1817, At the age of ten years with his parents he moved to Saline county, where they resided until June 10, 1844, when he emigrated across the plains and settled in Oregon. In 1845 he proceeded to California, and in 1846 came to this county, where he has resided almost continuously ever since. His farm comprises seven hundred and forty acres in the Sonoma valley, and is under good cultivation. Mr. Sears, like all old pioneers, has been engaged in many occupations, but has made farming his principal business. He has been prominently identified with all the interests of the county, and is always ready and willing to do anything that will tend to advance the interests of the county of his choice. Married Miss Margaret Swift July, 1851. Rachel J., widow of J. R. Snyder, and Granville C. P. are the names of his living children.
