Book Title: Historical And Descriptive Sketch Of Sonoma County, California

CHURCHES.

   There are eight churches in Santa Rosa. The oldest organized congregation was
the Baptist, who now have a fine church on B street, of which the Rev. S. A.
Taft is pastor. The next oldest church is the Christian, which is situated on
Fifth street. Elders J. Martin and J. Monroe have charge of this church. The
Methodist Episcopal Church South is located on Fifth street, Rev. J. O. Branch,
pastor. The Presbyterian church is also on Fifth street, Rev. F. M. Dimmick,
pastor. The Protestant Episcopal Church is situated on Mendocino street, Rev.
Thomas Smith, pastor. The Methodist Episcopal Church on Third street. Rev.
Charles E. Rich, pastor. The Catholic Church is on Fifth street, Rev. P. J.
Kaiser, priest in charge. There is also a church of the Seventh Day Adventists
on Second street; we believe they have no regular minister in charge. All these
churches have flourishing Sunday-schools, except the Adventists, who hold
service on Saturday.
