LOUIS OR EMBARCADERO. This, as its name implies, is the landing-place or embarcadero on Sonoma creek, at the head of navigation. Here supplies for the town and valley are received. In former times, when it was thought that Sonoma might become a town of importance, it was christened St. Louis, but it never reached the importance anticipated by its sponsors, and is, to-day, only the landing and shipping point for the town and valley of Sonoma, by a steamer which plies regularly between the landing and San Francisco.
