Sheppard, a longtime Sonoma County educator for whom the Sheppard School in the Roseland area was named,died Sunday at his Santa Rosa home after a brief illness. He was 84. Born in Windsor, he was a 1919 graduate of Santa Rosa High School and returned there to teach vocational agriculture for 12 years. A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, he also taught agriculture there two years before going to Santa Rosa High during a period that included instruction of vocational agriculture to returning World War II veterans. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Roseland School District for 25 years, and spoke at the dedication of Sheppard School in 1861. A fruit and vegetable farmer for at least 50 years in the Roseland area, he also was the owner of Fairlane Farms there. Fruits and vegetables picked at the farm by family members won many top ribbons at the Sonoma County Fair, of which he was a director for several years. He and his wife, Harriet, who entered fair prize winners under her own name, had six children, all of whom except Fred Sheppard, Jr., became educators. He is the general manager of an Oregon firm. Sheppard was a Mason about 60 years, and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Windsor. In addition to his wife and son Fred Jr., he is survived by a son, Stephen Sheppard, Santa Rosa; daughters, Barbara Snyder, Orinda; Norma Costalin, Sacramento; Patricia Owen, Ukiah, and Marian Sheppard, Lodi; sisters, Ellen Schalich, Santa Rosa, and Anne Higgins, Berkeley, and 12 grandchildren. Private services will be Wednesday at Daniels Chapel of the Roses, followed by entombment at Santa Rosa Memorial Park. Friends can call at the mortuary from 3 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial contributions are preferred to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 1701 19th Ave., San Francisco, 94122. Additional Comments: Funeral Notice: In Santa Rosa, July 28, 1985, Fred F. A native of California, age 84 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Windsor. A farmer and retired teacher. Father of 5 educators, a board member of the Roseland School District for 25 years. Sheppard School was named in his honor in 1961. Sonoma Country Fair Director for several years and owner of Fairlane Farms in the Roseland area. Private funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 31, 1985 at 10:00 a.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave., with Dr. Frank Hamilton Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of the Roses officiating.
