Bishop William 481007 p1 William Bishop, Early Resident, Is Buried Here; Last rites were held yesterday afternoon at Evans Chapel for William Bishop, 84, and Patterson resident since 1911. Death came in Chicago Sunday as the deceased and his wife Martha were returning to Patterson from a vacation in Michigan. A cold which suddenly developed into lobar pneumonia was set as the cause. Bishop and his wife had through the years earned the respect and admiration of the community for their unstinting efforts in helping the unfortunate and for participating in community enterprises. Until his retirement many years ago Bishop was employed by the Standard Oil Company. Services at the chapel were followed by interment in Del Puerto Cemetery. Reverend Kenneth Miller officiated. Other than his wife, Martha, the deceased leaves one son, Arthur, of Los Angles. Bondietti Arthur R 480902 p1 Services Held Yesterday for Arthur Bondietti; Last rites were held yesterday in Evans Chapel for Arthur R. Bondietti, 62, who took his own life early Sunday evening. Interment followed in Del Puerto cemetery. Bondietti was found lying in his backyard in Northmead about 10 p.m. Sunday evening by his, son-in-law, Al Loumena. He had shot himself with a .22 rifle, the bullet entering his left ear. No note was left nor was any reason advanced explaining the action. He is survived by his wife Mary and a daughter Mrs. Mary Loumena and by a brother and sister in Switzerland. Both his daughter and wife are nearing the end of an extended visit in that country. The deceased a native of Switzerland, came to Patterson in 1919. Boschi Julius 481209 p1 Julius Boschi Dies after Short Illness, Services Held Tues. A requiem mass was said Tuesday morning at Sacred Heart Church for Julius Boschi prominent Colony dairyman. Death came to the Patterson pioneer after a short illness ons cemetery. Father Joseph Lima officiated at all rites. In addition to his wife Angelina:, the deceased leaves three daughters, Rosie, and Alma Boschi, both of Patterson; Mrs. Annie Barcelos, of Los Banos; two sons, John and Julius. Jr., of Patterson. Brown O Mrs 481021 p1 Death Comes to Mrs. 0. Brown Tuesday Evening; Last rites will be held tomorrow for Mrs. O. Brown, 96, and Patterson resident since 1912, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Death came to the aged lady at her home on Las Palmas Ave. Tuesday night. "Grandma" Brown, as she was known to her many friends, was born in Telemarken, Norway on April 3, 1852. She leaves a host of survivors including a son, Dr. J. N. Brown, of Moorhead, Minnesota; a daughter Mrs. H. A. Johnson, also of Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Olson, daughter and son-in-law of Patterson and by eight grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by a brother, S. H. Sauer in Norway. Bucher Joe 480805 p1 Last Rites for Joe Bucher Will Take Place Today; Funeral services for Joe Bucher, 63, who drowned while fishing in the Sierra mountains Sunday, will take place today at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Catholic church in Modesto. Father John Mills will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus cemetery. Rosary services were last night at Shannon Chapel. According to the Tuolumne. county coroner, Bucher was completing a fishing excursion on Emigrant Lake, 80 miles east of Sonora, with his brother John of Modesto and several others. Evidently Bucher slipped into the lake from the bank where he was fishing. His faint cries for help were heard by his companions who were out on the lake and back at camp. They rushed to his assistance but were too late. After repeated dives into the water his body was recovered and taken to Kennedy Meadows. Bucher and his wife Annie came to their Orange Ave. home in May of 1944. He was a native of Switzerland. Button Alice E 480401 p3 Former Patterson Resident Dies in San Francisco; Mrs. Alice E. Button, former Patterson resident, died Saturday in San Francisco. Funeral services were held in Oakland Tuesday. Mrs. Button resided in Newman for many years prior to coming to Patterson. She met and married W. T. Button who was employed at the Yancey Lumber Co. there. Later they moved to Patterson where Button opened a branch for the Yancey Co. and operated as manager for some time. They left Patterson over 30 years ago for San Jose where they lived until Button's death in 1939. Mrs. Button had no children. Cerini Grace 480312 p1 Former Pattersonite Commits Suicide in Los Banos; Funeral services were held March 4 at Los Banos for Mrs. Grace Cerini, wife of J. R. Cerini, and former Patterson resident over 30 years ago, Mrs. Cerini had been in ill health for the past year and had become increasingly despondent. She walked into a canal near the Los Banos city water works. She left a note explaining her action to her husband. Her remains were cremated in Merced and taken to Mt. Olive cemetery in Sun Francisco for interment. Connelly Pat F 480401 p2 Pat Francis Connelly Buried at Del Puerto Monday Afternoon; Death came to Pat Francis Connelly, 75, Friday evening at a Modesto hospital. The deceased was a native of County Galloway, Ireland. He is survived by a cousin in Rodeo, California, and is thought to have brothers and sisters in Chicago. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday at Evans Chapel, with interment following at Del Puerto Cemetery. Cox Frank A Jr 481007 p1 Funeral Services for Frank Cox, Jr., Set for Saturday; Funeral services for Private Frank A. Cox, Jr., oldest son of a pioneer local family, who was killed in action near Aachen, Germany, on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 1944, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday morning at the University of Santa Clara Mission Chapel in Santa Clara. Cox, who was graduated from Bellyarmine College Preparatory in San Jose in 1942 after earlier education at Westley and Patterson schools, was called into the armed service with the entire Freshman Class of the University of Santa Clara in May of 1943. He had been majoring in Business Administration. Only 20 years old when his untimely death occurred, Frank was the son of Mrs. Frank A. Cox and the late Mr. Cox of Westley, and he had spent most of his boyhood on the family ranch, between Patterson and Westley Killed in Attack; He was overseas only six weeks when he was killed in an artillery attack. His body was recovered and buried at Margrattan, Holland, until its recent return to the United States. Prior to going overseas, he had been enrolled in an army specialized training course for engineers at Lehigh University, Pa. In addition to his mother, his immediate survivors include five sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Cox King of San Francisco, Mrs. Jane Cox Thomas and Mrs. Madelyn Cox Chatton, both of Berkeley, Mrs. Francis Cox Mallory, San Jose, and Mary Louise Cox, a student at San Jose State College, and a brother, John Cox, a student at Patterson High School. He is also survived by a grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Shannon of San Jose. He was a nephew of the Misses Sadie and Mabel Cox, W. W. Cox and the late J. D. Cox. The Rosary will be recited Friday night at 8 o clock at the Monahan, O Brien and Moriarty Funeral Home, San Jose, with the Requiem High Mass being celebrated Saturday morning at 9 o clock at Mission Santa Clara. Burial will be in the family plot in Modesto cemetery. Dryden Judy 480722 p1 Graveside Services for Dryden Infant at Del Puerto Today; Graveside services were held this morning in Del Puerto Cemetery for Judy Dryden, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul K. Dryden. Judy, who was a month and a half old, passed away Tuesday evening in a Modesto hospital. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, David. Rev. Kenneth Miller officiated at the services with the Evans Chapel in charge of arrangements. Duran Abairizla 480408 p1 Services Held Yesterday for Abairizla Duran; Funeral services were held yesterday morning at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart church for Abairizla Duran, 26, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Duran of Westley. Miss Duran passed away Monday evening after an extended illness. She came to Westley four years ago with her family from Texas. In addition to her mother and father, the deceased is survived by Mrs. Victoria Ramirez, sister in Texas and the following brothers and sisters all of Westley, Mrs. Nick Tina, Desistra, Mary, Helen, Pauline, Tonce, Lewis, and Emilio Duran. Burial followed the ceremony at St. Mary's cemetery, the Evans Chapel in charge. Ebinger Louis 480212 p1 Louis Ebinger Dies in Modesto Hospital; Louis ( Shorty ) Ebinger, 76, and resident of Patterson since 1915 passed away in a Modesto hospital Monday after a short illness. Shorty was known for his humor and wit and was a favorite around town. There are no known survivors. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Evans Chapel. Burial will be in Del Puerto cemetery. Egozque Carlos 481209 p1 Last Rites Held for Carlos Egozque; Rosary services were held Thursday evening at Evans Chapel with funeral rites conducted the next day at Sacred Heart church for Carlos Egozque, 53, employed by the Y. Santos ranch in the foothills. Death came at a Modesto hospital November 30th. He is survived by a cousin in Sacramento. Interment was made in St. Mary's cemetery. Friedrich Myrtle L 481216 p1 Pneumonia Attack Causes Death of Myrtle Friedrich; A sudden attack of pneumonia caused the death Friday afternoon of Mrs. Myrtle L. Friedrich, 40, of Welty Road, Vernalis. Funeral services were held Monday at Evans Chapel with entombment following in the Parkview Mausoleum, Stockton. A native of Texas the deceased has resided at Vernalis for 10 years. She is survived by her husband, William, a. daughter, Mrs. Dolores Stridborg, Vernalis and by a son, James, also of Vernalis and by her mother, Mrs. Ida Slocum, of Northern California, her father, C. L Ridenour, of Oakdale and by two brothers, Gilbert Ridenour and Leslie Slocum, both of Vernalis. George Maria S 480624 p 1 Maria S. George Buried Here Today; Mrs. Maria S. George of Crows Landing passed away late Sunday eve after a long illness. Mrs. George was a native of the Azores and a resident of Crows Landing for the past 25 years. She was 55 years old. Her survivors are: her husband, Antonio F. George, three sons, Tony and Manuel of Crows Landing and Joseph of Merced, two daughters Mary Ann of Crows Landing and Mrs. Everett Souza of Newman, two brothers Manuel R. Furtado and Joe H. Gill Elsie M 481014 p1 Last Rites Are Held Tuesday for Mrs. Marie Gill; Death came late Saturday night to Mrs. Elsie Marie Gill, 59, pioneer Patterson woman and mother of four sons. The end came in Turlock's .Emmanuel Hospital after an extended illness. A native of Finland; the deceased came to California in 1906, moving to Patterson shortly thereafter. She is survived by her husband, Antone, four sons, John, Joseph, Antone and Pete, all of Patterson and by two sisters, one in Finland and one in San Diego. Family services were held Tuesday morning in Evans Chapel with cremation following in Stockton's Parkview Crematory. Gobbi George F 480610 p4 George F. Gobbi Found Dead in His Cabin; George F. Gohbi, 49, a native of Sebastopol and resident of Patterson for 20 years, was found dead Wednesday afternoon in his cabin at the rear of the old Standard Oil pumping station. Subsequent investigation by County Coroner J. K. Ransome and Deputy Sheriff C. J. Crawford determined that the deceased died from natural causes. Time of death was set at 10 a.m. that morning. Gordon George 481118 p1 George Gordon, 71, Succumbs in Modesto Hospital Sunday; George Gordon, 71, died early Sunday morning in a Modesto hospital following an operation. Last rites were held Tuesday afternoon in Stockton with burial following in the Rural Cemetery. The Evans Chapel was in charge of local arrangements. Gordon, a native of Lockford, California, is survived by his wife, Clara, of Patterson and by three sons and one daughter, Arthur of Sacramento, George Jr., of Patterson, Robert of Lodi and Blanche Penero, Stockton. He resided with his son George of S. Third Street. Griffith Elizabeth B 480826 p4 Mother of Jack Patterson Dies in San Francisco; Elizabeth B. Griffith, mother of Jack Patterson, died Tuesday evening in San Francisco after a brief illness following a heart attack. Mrs. Griffith, husband of the late Thomas W. Patterson, spent much of her life in Fresno before moving to San Francisco. Services will he held at the Stephens and Bean Chapel in Fresno tomorrow at, 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in that city. In addition to her son, Jack, she is survived by five granddaughters, and four great-granddaughters. Hauert Gary J 481216 p1 Last Rites Held for Hauert Infant; Last rites were held yesterday for Gary Joel Hauert. three year old son of Mr. and Mrs. H. F Hauert. of Fresno. Mrs. Hauert is the former Dora Gustafson. The services took place in Fresno with Rev. Magnus Anderson, of Our Saviour s Lutheran church, officiating. Death was attributed to leukemia. In addition to his parents he is survived by his sister Gail Anne and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Hauert, of Los Banos. Johnson Aina 480520 p1 Early Patterson Resident Dies in San Francisco; Death came Sunday afternoon to Mrs. Aina Johnson, 62, in San Francisco, after an extended illness. A native of Finland, the deceased came to Patterson in 1911. For the past 2˝ years Mrs. Johnson and her husband, Martin, resided in the Bay area. Funeral services were held yesterday at Evans Chapel with interment following at Del Puerto cemetery. Rev. C. Adolph Nylund officiated. She is survived by her husband, Martin, in addition to Ina and Hildur Johnson, two daughters of San Francisco, and Helen Johnson, a daughter, of Fresno, and by Vincent Johnson, a son of Mariposa.. The Johnson s were engaged in farming operations on Olive Ave. until their departure for San Francisco in 1946. Johnson Lester A 480909 p1 Stockton Man Collapses While Working in Field; Lester A. Johnson, 53, a Stockton farm laborer, collapsed and died from a heart attack Thursday while working on the Art Knutson ranch on Fruit Ave at the Highway. He was employed by Otto Allgoewer, labor contractor, of Stockton. From papers found on the body the Evans Chapel ascertained that he was a native of Iowa and that he was a member of the American Legion. No known survivors could be located. Graveside services were held Tuesday at Del Puerto with Rev. Magnus Anderson officiating. Several members of the Patterson American Legion post were in attendance. Kidd Janie L 480415 p1 Funeral Services for Mrs. Janie Lee Kidd Are Here Tomorrow; Funeral services for Mrs. Janie Lee Kidd, 84, will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. at Evans Chapel with interment following in Del Puerto cemetery. The Rev. Maurice Cheek, Sacramento, and former pastor of the Federated Church will officiate. Mrs. Kidd. a resident of Patterson since 1918, passed away early Tuesday morning following an extended illness. She was born in 1864 in Glasgow, Barren County, Kentucky. A teacher for many years, Mrs. Kidd was always interested in church, civic and community affairs. She was a member of the Methodist church. Her husband, William T. Kidd, passed away several years ago. The couple celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1936. Three daughters were born to the couple, the late Mrs. Arvin P. Ralston, Mrs. Earl W. Redford and Mrs. R. R.Edwards. The deceased is also survived by ten grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren. Lorimer Helen 480125 p1 Mrs. Helen Lorimer, 94, Dies Yesterday; Death came early yesterday morning to Mrs. Helen Lorimer, 94, popular and colorful pioneer resident of Patterson, W. F. Woolley, after a lengthy illness. A resident of Patterson the past 26 years, Mrs. Lorimer was born in Scotland in 1953. (sic) Funeral services are set for 10:30 Saturday morning at Evans Chapel. The Rev. Lee of St. Paul s Episcopal Church of Modesto will officiate. The remains will be removed to San Jose for cremation and interment in Oak Hill Cemetery in that city. Amazing Vitality ; A woman of amazing vitality, Mrs. Lorimer maintained an extraordinary interest until the last. Her life span of nearly a century remained vivid in her memory and provided material for fascinating reminiscences of famous persons and events. These would go back to such items as describing the illumination of Edinburgh Castle in outline with many thousands of candles on the occasion of the visit of royalty. And she stayed up all night to hear the recent broadcast of Princess Elizabeth's marriage— and sat through the showings of the news reel of the event. She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. F. Wooley, of Patterson, Mrs. Harrie Moffat, of Brentwood; by seven grandchildren, Lorimer, Muir, Craig and Stewart Woolley, Harrie Woolley Pankey, Marion Moffat Hobson, Walter Lindsay Moffatt; by eight great-grandchildren, Margaret, Marcia, Jeanette and William Pankey, Joan Hobson, George Craig Woolley, Katherine Lorimer Woolley and John Stewart Woolley. She was the aunt of Mrs. Helen Gardiser and Mrs. Willis Moleen, of Patterson, of Mrs. William Shotton of London, England; of Mr. Delos Mansfield, of San Jose, and Mrs. F. MansfieId, of Portland, Oregon. Mathews Charles 480819 p1 Auto Accident Injuries Cause Death of Charles Mathews; Funeral services will be tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Evans Chapel for Charles Mathews, 67, who died Tuesday night from injuries sustained in an auto accident August 4th near Westley. Mathews, who lived on Eucalyptus Ave., is survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters. In addition to his wife they are Mrs. Grace Myers, of Visalia, Mrs Leola Morrison of Patterson, Mrs Faye Williams, of Salida, A C. and Ray Mathews, of Patterson and Vernon Mathews, of Texas. The deceased came to Patterson from Texas 11 years ago. Burial will be in Del Puerto cemetery. McBride John H 480812 p1 Father of Riley McBride Dies Here Saturday Morning; Death came early Saturday morning to John H. McBride, 66, father of Riley McBride at his son s home on Elm Ave. The deceased had lived at his son's home frequently for the past two years. Funeral services and interment were held yesterday in La Mesa, California. Arrangements in Patterson were handled by the Evans Funeral Chapel. In addition to his son, Riley, the deceased leaves five daughters and two sons and a sister in Texas. Death was due to natural causes. McCartney Joseph 480812 p1 Services Held for McCartney Infant; Graveside services were held yesterday morning at St. Mary's cemetery for Joseph McCartney, new born son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph McCartney. The infant died a few hours after birth early Tuesday morning. In addition to his parents the deceased is survived by one sister, Patricia. Father Joseph Lima officiated at the rites. The Evans Chapel was in charge of arrangements. McCartney is employed by the Patterson Irrigator. McConnell Frank E 480529 p1 Pioneer Patterson Merchant Fails To Rally From Operation; Frank F. McConnell, pioneer merchant of this area, passed away at a Santa Cruz hospital Saturday, failing to rally, from the effects of an operation performed earlier, he was 59 years of age. He is survived by his widow, Mrs Zara McConnell, and two sons, Cameron and Jack, as well as a sister and brother; Mrs. Margaret Stanton of Carmel and Jack McConnell of Westley. Private services were held at a Santa Cruz Chapel Tuesday morning, followed by cremation of the remains. McConnell came to Grayson about 1909 to enter the employ of a store there. Liking the country, he soon made arrangements to purchase the business, in partnership with Paul Huntsberger, and they moved the store to Westley. A decade of this was followed by a period of retirement during which the family constructed the present Robert Harrison place in Nothmead. He took over the store business again following this, only to sell out to his brother, Jack. The family then moved to Burbank, only to be lured back again in the late 20's to purchase the Witten Market in Patterson. Operation of this was continued until 1936 when P. H. Klein bought the business and the McConnells moved to Pasatiempo at Santa Cruz. Medeiros Manuel A 480312 p1 Last Rites for Manuel Medeiros Held Monday A. M.; Funeral services for Manuel Andrade Medeiros, 82, were held at the Sacred Heart church at 9 a.m. Monday, the Rev. Lester Ehrmann officiating. Rosary services for the deceased were held Sunday evening at Evans Chapel. Medeiros was a native of St. Miguel Island in the Azores and resided on Central Ave. in the Ceres area. Prior to moving to Central Ave., he. had lived in Patterson for several years. He is survived by three sons, Manuel, Frank and John and by 13 grandchildren. Interment was in St. Mary s cemetery. Moe T J 480129 p1 Death of T. J. Moe Is Blow to Community; His Place in Local Affairs Will Be Missed; Just prior to press time word was received that funeral services for T. J. Moe, will be held at 10:30 a. m., Monday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Del Puerto Cemetery with Evans Chapel officiating. Final arrangements had been held pending information regarding train schedules from Iowa. The many friends and acquaintances of T. J. Moe were stunned Tuesday to learn of his sudden death while recuperating from injuries received in an automobile accident in Denison, Iowa, Sunday. Death came to the popular pioneer and civic leader as he was preparing to return to Patterson. A sudden blood clot on the heart was set as the cause. Moe had left Patterson the middle of the month for a trip to Chicago where he intended to marry Mrs. Marcella Osterberg, mother of Mrs. Orly Ingvold. Mrs Ingvold's husband is Chaplain Ingvold, Navy chaplain and former pastor of Our Saviour's Lutheran church. Moe and his bride intended to return to Patterson after a brief stay in the East. Icy Road; The accident occurred Sunday on an icy road near Denison. Moes's automobile skidded on the pavement, swerved into a truck, bounced off and hit an automobile. His injuries, while severe, were not critical and he made a rapid recovery until the blood clot struck him down at 8 p.m. Monday evening. Prior to that time he had been able to get out of bed and was slated to return to Patterson Tuesday by train with Mrs. Osterberg. His son, Robert received several letters from Moe himself indicating that there was no cause for alarm. Left by Plane; His daughter and son-in-law left their Sims, Montana home by plane for Iowa immediately upon hearing of the tragedy. They, in company with Mrs. Osterberg will return to Patterson with the body. Moe is survived by his daughter, Delores, of Sims, Montana; his son, Robert, of Patterson and by two grandchildren, John Gregory Moe and Robert Arnold Bell. He was born in Mound, Minnesota, March 15, 1889. While in Seattle in 1811 he met Walfrid Knutson. The two became fast friends and left Seattle for Los Angles together. Enroute south they stopped at Patterson, intending to sped the night at the Hotel Del Puerto. The overnight stop extended into many years as the two liked the town and surrounding country so well. They became partners in the carpentry business and later expanded their efforts to include contracting. In a few years the pair married sisters, Moe taking as his bride Matilda Hansel. The wedding took place in San Francisco in June of 1915. During his many years here Moe extended his operations to include fruit orchards and one time operated a grocery store apart from his partnership with Walfrid. In addition to his contracting and building activities Mow held a distinguished place in city affairs becoming City Clerk in 1922 a position he maintained until his death. He was secretary of the Farm Loan Association , Deputy County Assessor, Secretary of the Rural Fire District, Secretary of the Patterson Cemetery District, Tax Consultant, and Insurance Agent. Church Leader; In addition to his other duties Moe held a high position in church affairs. He was Circuit President of the Lutheran Brotherhood and the Lay Member of the Pacific District General Lutheran Church Council which covered the entire Pacific Coast. He was a leader in church affairs at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and was a member of the Church Council. Will be Missed; His presence in church, city and community affairs will be sorely missed. The City Council turned to him time and again for advice on civic matters due to his sound judgement and long experience. Messages expressing sorrow and condolences at his passing have been pouring into the Moe residence on N. Third St. as news of the tragedy spread throughout the area. Community leaders are unanimous in stating that his place in local affairs will be hard to fill. Nunes Mary A 480129 p1 Funeral Services for Mary Nunes Held Monday; Funeral services for Mary A. Nunes, 71, were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church. Rosary services for the deceased were held Sunday night at Evans Chapel. Rev. Lester Ehrmann officiated at both rites. Mrs. Nunes passed away Friday afternoon at her home on Sycamore Ave. after a brief illness. She was born in St George Azore Islands and came to Patterson 19 years ago. She is survived by her husband, M. S. Nunes and five children; Mrs. Mary Alias, Modesto, Mrs. Lucille Cruz, Watsonville, Mrs. Angeline Azevedo, Watsonville, Ida Nunes Patterson and Manuel Nunes, Patterson. Burial was in St Mary's cemetery. Throughout the years she has been a frequent visitor to Patterson and has made many friends in this area. The deceased was a native of the Azore Islands. Ehrmann officiating. Rosary services were held Sunday evening at Evans Chapel. Death came to the pioneer resident Friday evening at the West Side hospital in Newman after a short illness. A native of Switzerland, the deceased came to Patterson in 1913. Her husband Patrizio Pezzoni, passed away in 1937. Interment was in St. Mary‘s cemetery. She is survived by four sons and a daughter Delmo, Leo, and Elsie Pezzoni of Patterson and by Florino and Dell Pezzoni of Stockton. A sister, Mrs. Katherine Albertoni, is a Patterson resident. In addition she is survived by one sister and two brothers in Switzerland and by four grandchildren. The deceased was a native of Avegno, Switzerland. Totman Harold Lt 481216 p1 One Of Patterson War Dead to be Buried in Santa Cruz; Another of Patterson's war dead has been returned from his over seas resting place and will be buried tomorrow in Santa Cruz. Lt. Harold Totman, son of Dr and Mrs. F. H. Totman, survived the hazards of the Pacific campaigns only to be killed in a post war crash on September 17, 1945. He was a transport pilot. His body was among the many war dead now being returned to this country for burial. Rosary services will be held tomorrow night at the White Chapel in Santa Cruz with requiem service Saturday at the Holy Cross Church. Burial will be in San Francisco at the Holy Cross Cemetery. Totman, a graduate of Patterson schools, leaves, in addition to his parents. his grandmother, Mrs J. C. Scanlon, and an uncle Howard Totman. both of Patterson. Viera of Turlock and father of Mrs. Emily Silveira of Patterson passed away the 29th of June at his home after an extended illness. Vieira was a native of the Azores and a resident of Turlock for the past thirty-five years. A native of Iowa, Mrs. Yale came with her husband and three children to Patterson a year ago. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Maurice Yale, official for the local Arden Farms plant, and three children, Paul, Maurine and Kenneth. In addition she leaves her mother, Mrs. G.
