Abel Gilbert L 550811 p5 Spencer Crossing Collision Kills Antioch Man; A head-on collision at Highway 33 and McCracken Roads in the Patterson area last Thursday night resulted in the death of Gilbert Lee Abel, 52, of Antioch. Abel, who was going south on Highway 33 at approximately 8:30 p.m., was crossing the railroad tracks at Spencer Crossing, 1 ½ miles south of Vernalis. According to the California Highway Patrol, gouge marks in the pavement indicated that Abel was driving about two feet over the double line, resulting in a head-on sideswiping collision with a two-and-a-half ton flatbed truck. The truck, driven by Chester E. Lievre, 34, of Hayward, was loaded with melons, which were scattered over the road by the impact of the crash. Abel was pinned under the steering wheel and apparently was killed instantly. His wife, Anna Belle, 49, was taken to the Tracy Memorial Hospital with major injuries. Lievre was treated at Tracy Hospital for minor hurts but was not hospitalized. The El Solyo Fire Department washed the melons off the highway. The car was hastily pulled off the tracks in the face of an oncoming train. Services were held in Antioch Tuesday for Abel. He was a native of Oklahoma and was a landscape gardener by trade. Acker Robert I 550428 p1 Services Today For Robert T. Acker; Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. this morning at Evans Chapel for Robert Theodor Acker, 47, who died suddenly at his home Sunday morning. County Coroner E. Glenn Drake said cause of death was apparently a heart attack. Acker. a resident of Patterson for 15 years, was head custodian at Patterson Union High School. He was a native of Nebraska. Rev. J. Carl Fritz will officiate at this morning s services arid interment will be at Del Puerto Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Ferne; two children, Robert H., Patterson high school student, and Carol eighth grade student at Las Palmas School; and seven brothers and sisters, Lloyd Acker of South Dakota, Mrs. Alberta Martin of S. D., Mrs. Mary Helen Bisgard of S. D., Mrs. Edith Wordell of Idaho, Kenneth Acker of New Mexico, Harry Acker cf Oxnard and Mrs. Dolly Killar of Sacramento. Anderson Augusta 550908 p1 Services Held For Augusta Anderson; Services were held Saturday at Evans Chapel for Augusta Anderson, 87, who passed away Thursday at Emmanuel Hospital in Turlock after a short illness. A native of Sweden, she had lived here since 1920. Her residence was on Pomelo Ave. Preceding her in death was a brother, Charles Anderson, who passed away in 1947: Rev. Edwin Solie officiated at services and interment was at Del: Puerto Cemetery. Anderson Morris Mrs 550602 p1 Mrs. M. Anderson Dies in Turlock; Mrs. Morris Anderson, 52, died Tuesday afternoon in a Turlock hospital following a long illness. Final rites will be conducted at the Norton Mortuary in Turlock Friday at 2:00 p.m. with interment at the Turlock Cemetery. She and her husband, who survives her, lived on Ash Avenue for a number of years. They came to Patterson in 1914, and he worked for Associated Oil Company. A year ago they moved to Turlock. Morris Anderson is a brother of Roy Anderson of Patterson. Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Dolores Strickland near Turlock; a son, Waldon Anderson of Sacramento; one grandchild and one great grandchild. Antognini Albino 550310 p5 Services Held for Albino Antognini in Greenfield; Albino Antognini, 71, father of Walter and William Antognini of Patterson passed away March 3 in the San Jose Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Antognini, son Jimmie and William Antognini attended the funeral Monday in Greenfield. Interment was at the Soledad Community Cemetery. He was born in Switzerland came to California in his youth and resided in Monterey County. His home for 36 years was at Greenfield. Antognini Ida 550407 p5 Mrs. Ida Antognini Passes Away at Salinas Hospital; Mrs. Ida Antognini, 66, passed away last Friday in a Salinas hospital after a short illness. Mr. and Mrs. Walter A. Antognini and family, William Antognini and Mrs Josephine Schuler attended the funeral services held April 5. Burial was at the Soledad Community Cemetery. Mrs. Antognini was a native of Switzerland. She came to the United States with her late husband, Albino Antognini, 47 years ago. They resided in Greenfield, California, for 36 years. He passed away March 3 of this year. Awe, 80, who passed away at the hospital Sunday. She had Iived at the home of her son, Carl Awe, in Crows Landing for the past year. Mrs. Awe was a native of Germany. Azevedo Manuel III 550519 p1 Azevedo Boy Dies From Injuries in Auto Accident; Manuel Azevedo III died Tuesday night at 10:13 at Del Puerto Hospital as a result of injuries received Saturday morning when his car crashed through the Las Palmas bridge railing. He had maintained life through pure grit as his body was smashed in the accident. High requiem mass will be sung at the Sacred Heart Church Saturday morning at 10:00. Interment will be at St. Mary s Cemetery. Friday night Rosary will be recited at Evans Chapel. The 17 year old youth, who had been living in Modesto, was hurrying to the funeral of his grandmother, Mrs. Maria Azevedo. He apparently lost control of the new sedan on the approach to the bridge, veered across the road and plowed headlong into the railing on the south side of the road. The car plunged off the bridge landing upside down on the river bottom. Although critically injured and pinned to the wreckage, the boy remained conscious. He attempted to tell a woman, the first person at the scene, how to apply a tourniquet to stem the blood. The youth was the son of Manuel Azevedo of Patterson and Mrs Rae Azevedo of 232 Yosemite Avenue, Modesto. He was born July 20, 1937. Manuel III attended Patterson schools through his sophomore year at. Patterson High. This year he was at Modesto High. If he had remained at Patterson, he would have been junior class president, having been elected last Spring. Last year he was chairman of the parade committee for Youth Day, and. he served as general chairman of all concessions at high school football games here. He was interested in Cadet Corps activities and continued this interest by joining the National Guard in Modesto. Surviving are his father in Patterson; his mother in Modesto; four half sisters, Mary Louise and Ida Elizabeth, living with the father in Patterson, and two older sisters, Dwan Alberti and Gwenn Wininger of Modesto. Azevedo Maria 550519 p1 Services Field For Mrs. M. Azevedo; Final rites were conducted at the Sacred Heart Church Saturday morning for Mrs. Maria Azevedo, 67, who passed away late in the afternoon of May 11 after a lengthy illness. Interment was at St. Mary s Cemetery. She followed her husband Manuel in death by one year and 11days. Much of the past year she had been ill, being hospitalized several times. Prior to her death she asked to be brought home, and she was taken in death at home. She and Manuel had been married in Massachusetts when she was 18 and he 17. Throughout the years they worked side by side, first in a milk business, then as dairy farmers and finally as merchants. Even during the past year she was a familiar figure at the grocery store managed by her son Frank. She was a native of Terceira, Azore Islands. At the age of 13 she came to America, living with the Frank C. Viera s of Westport, Mass. The Viera s now live in Tracy. The Azevedo s came to Patterson in 1911. She is survived by five sons Manuel Jr., Joaquin, Johnny, Frank, all of Patterson. and George of Richmond; two daughters, Mrs. Alice Perry of Stockton, Mrs. Selaphina Foster of Modesto; two brothers, Joe Ferry of Rhode Island, Joaquin Ferry of the Azores; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Azevedo of Patterson, Mrs. Alice Sierra of Brazil; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Charles Ferry, Frank Azevedo, John Azevedo, George Azevedo and Ernie Rose. None of the Azevedp's acting as pallbearers are her sons. Baker George W 550414 p2 Former Resident Lies in Arkansas; Bob Stivers of Patterson ant his mother, Mrs. Andrew Moore of Sacramento, have returned from attending the funeral of George W. Baker in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Baker, 70, father of Mrs. Moore. died March 23 and the services were held March 26. Prior to his moving to Arkansas, he had lived here 10 years as a dairyman on Walnut Avenue. He had been gone from Patterson nine years. Surviving are his widow, Hazel of Eureka Springs; Mrs. Moore; two grandchildren, Stivers and Mrs. John Souza of Waterford; four great grandchildren and four brothers and one sister. Berg Ida 550331 p1 Funeral Services; FuneraI services were held yesterday at the Faron Lutheran Church in Escalon for Ida Berg, 82, mother of Mrs. Lily Knutson of Patterson. She passed away Saturday in Escalon after an illness of several months. Surviving are her husband, G. E. Berg, eight children, 28 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Bizzini Howard E 550120 p 1 Accident Claims Banker s Life; Rosary was held last Friday night and services Saturday morning for Howard Edward Bizzini, 26, who died following an auto accident at the intersection cf Crows Landing Road and Tuolumne Road last Wednesday night. Interment was in Hills Ferry Cemetery. Bizzini was employed at the First Western Bank & Trust Co. here for the past several months and before that worked at the Bank of America in Gustine. He was a Gustine resident and is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bizzini and a brother. According, to the. California Highway Patrol report both vehicles were pointed west on Tuolumne Road. Officers surmised the car driven by Bizzini tried to stop at the intersection, as evidenced by skid marks, but collided with a pickup driven by Alfred Hibert, 34, of Ceres. The pickup was apparently attempting a left turn. The driver s side of Bizzini's car collided with the right rear of Hilbert s 1 ½ ton pickup. The accident occurred at 6:08 p.m. and Bizzini, taken by ambulance to Modesto City Hospital, died at 8:53 p.m. from head injuries. Brown Illana K 551020 p1 Services Held for Baby Tuesday; Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning at Evans Chapel for Illana Kaye Brown, 10 month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orshal Brown of Medford, Oregon, and recently of Crows Landing. She died suddenly Thursday in a Medford hospital. Interment was at St. Mary s Cemetery. Rev. W. A. Pankey of Crows Landing officiated. Burns; Services were held Tuesday at Evans Chapel for Margaret Kennedy Burns who passed away June 25 in Del Puerto Hospital after a lingering illness. She was born in Toronto, Canada,. January 6, 1887, and graduated from Toronto schools and from the Connaught Hospital in 1909. A widow of the late Dr. Charles W. Burns, she had assisted her husband in his practice in Canada until his death in 1924. She continued nursing for over 25 years, retiring and moving to Patterson in 1948. She was a charter member and the first Noble Grand of Century Rebecca Lodge No 100 of Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan, and later a member of Santa Rita Lodge of Rebeccas in Newman. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Thomas E. Jackson, and a grandson, Bruce Jackson both of Patterson; and two sisters, Lillian Wynne of Philadelphia and Mrs. Mamie Griffith of Toronto, Canada. Carter David D 550929 p8 Final Rites; Final rites will be held tonight at 8 at Evans Chapel for David Carter, 63, who died here Tuesday afternoon from a heart attack. He was a resident of El Centro and a native of Georgia. Surviving are his wife, Pearl, and five brothers and a sister in Georgia. Interment will be in El Centro. Corral Annie-Marslino 551020 p1 Auto Collision Kills Two Crows Landing Children, Injures Two Local Youths; Two Crows Landing children were killed and two local young men were injured in a collision of two cars on Crows Landing Road at 12:30 A. M. Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted at Sacred Heart Church for Annie Louise Corral, 11, and Marslino Corral,12. They are the children of Mrs. Carmen Corral of Crows Landing. Annie passed away at 2:15 A.M. Sunday and Marsino at 5:10 A. M. as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. Brian Del Nero,20, driver of one car and William Solari, 21, a passenger, both of Patterson, received identical knee injuries and head cuts requiring stitches. Solari also has a broken right wrist, incurred when he tried to hold himself back fro, the windshield. Both are expected to be released from the Modesto City Hospital this week. The Del Nero car was a total wreck, and apparently the only reason Del Nero wasn t more seriously injured is due to his being thrown from the car on impact. Del Nero was heading south on Crows Landing Road when the other car; driven by Johnnie Herrera, 26, Crows Landing, ran the stop sign on Whitmore and sped directly in front of Del Nero. Herrera's auto then hit a utility pole and ran into a field west of the intersection. According to reports, Herrera was without driver s license or insurance. Others injured in the accident: Herrera, face cuts and minor contusions; Dora Chevrilla, 24, several minor injuries; Timothy Corral, 7, cuts and bruises; Manuel Lovia, 22, Filmore Ranch, multiple injuries. Herrera Chevrilla and Lovia are hospitalized. Rosary was said for the children Wednesday night at Evans Chapel. Services are this morning, with interment at St. Mary s Cemetery. They are survived by their mother; four brothers, Mike and Timothy Corral of Crows Landing; Dora Chevrilla; Johnny and Ralph Chevrilla of Los Angeles. Correia Frank D 550203 p1 Final Rites For Frank Correia; Final rites were conducted Tuesday morning for Frank Duta Correia, 70, a 30-year Patterson Colony resident who made his home on Eucalyptus Avenue. The funeral mass was said by Rev. John B. Dermody at Sacred Heart Church. Interment was at St. Mary s Cemetery. The retired dairyman, a native of Fial, Azores Islands. died at Del Puerto Hospital Saturday morning. He was admitted at the hospital Friday following a long illness. Rosary was said Monday night at 8 o clock at Evans Chapel. Correia was a. member of UPEC No. 130. He is survived by his widow Mrs. Josephine Correia; four children, Mrs. John Nunes, Mrs. Rose Fialho, and Henry Correia of Patterson, and Mrs. Henry Matoza of San Leandro; six sisters and brothers, Mrs. Frank Trinta of Patterson, Mrs. Rose Ponce of Massachusetts, Tony and John Correia of Massachuset, Manuel and Joe of Fial, Azores; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The 41year old native of Sacramento had lived here 13 years. She was an active member of the Women s Auxiliary, Del Puerto Hospital. Officiating at the Tuesday service were Rev. Crisler Robert W 550331 p1 Ripon Man Suicide Victim in Del Puerto Canyon; Robert W. Crisler, 35, of Ripon was found dead in his car Friday morning in Del Puerto Canyon. He was a suicide victim, having died from carbon monoxide poisoning. His car was found with a hose running from the exhaust into the car. The car was first seen on the road about five miles north of the canyon mouth early Wednesday morning. Ben Allustiarti of Patterson and Domingo Domingos, ranch partners, saw the parked car Friday morning and investigated, finding the body. Crisler apparently had been despondent because of marital difficulties. His wife had filed for divorce. He leaves five children. The body was transferred from the Evans Chapel Sunday for services in Ripon. Crow Ralph L 550414 p5 Final Rites Held for R. L. Crow; Final rites were conducted for Ralph L. Crow, 74, of Crows Landing Tuesday morning at the Davis-Hansen Chapel in Newman. He died Sunday at his home. Officiating was the Rev. W. A. Pankey of the Crows Landing Presbyterian Church. Cremation followed at the Park View Crematorium in San Joaquin County. He was a retired rancher and a former director and president of the Bank of Newman, now the First Western Bank & Trust Company of Crows Landing. He served as director from September 24, 1928. Crow was the grandson of John Bradford Crow, founder of Crows Landing. Surviving are his widow, Ada T. Crow, a son, James T. Crow of Crows Landing; one grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. W. W. Bruner of Piedmont and Mrs. B. E. Munson of Modesto. Del Nero Ermen 550922 p1 Final Rites For Ermen Del Nero; Funeral services were held yesterday at Shannon Chapel in Modesto for Ermen Del Nero, 72, who passed away in his Modesto home Saturday night. A native of Italy, he had lived in the Patterson area since 1921. Prior to moving to Modesto three and a half years ago, he had a dairy ranch on Magnolia Avenue. Field, Patterson's first doctor, in Hayward Tuesday evening. He was 95. He is survived by his wife and a son in Los Angeles. He had been hired in Stockton to work here but no one at the camp knew him when he died. As he was passing, he gasped the name "San Leandro". Evans Chapel Officials could find no identification and only had the man s, final words as repeated by another laborer at the camp. The chapel sent a description of the man to San Leandro police, who in turn placed a notice in the local newspaper. Yesterday morning Mike Garcia of Greenville; a brother of the deceased who was visiting in Hayward arrived in Patterson to claim the body. He said he had seen the newspaper story. Garcia leaves two brothers and a sister. He was a native of Spain. During the past year Harrison had undergone two major operations in San Francisco and had been hospitalized here for the past couple weeks. It would be an understatement to call him a long-time resident of Patterson because he came here in April, 1909, before the city was incorporated, and he has been a leading figure throughout all those years He was twice postmaster. serving from 1910 until 1922 and from 1942 until July 1949. From 1929 until May 1942 he served as city councilman and was mayor during the last four years. He resigned in 1942 to become postmaster for the second time. During the past four years he has been city clerk, secretary of the city planning commission and secretary of the chamber of commerce. In addition, he has been chairman of the Stanislaus County Selective Service Board the last three years and he has served on that board since 1938. He was Patterson s Civil Defense coordinator as well as chairman of the joint county-city Civil Defense planning board. Fritz, as he was more familiarly known throughout the county was born in Cartersville, Va. At the age of 18, while attending Virginia Military Institute, he joined the Army s Light Infantry Blues to serve in the Spanish- American War. He later went with the 4th Virginia Company to Cuba and then served with the 27th Infantry Division in the Philippines. In 1909 he came to Patterson and was employed until December, 1936, as manager of the Patterson Ranch Company. Fritz was active in count politics and was a former member of the county Democratic central committee. Among his verbal sparring partners, he was recognized as a leading exponent of the proper word for the proper occasion. He took delight in using anything but the common words, and his letters and descriptions often contained grandiose wordage. His large vocabulary was developed through many hours of reading leading periodicals and books. During his most recent illness he enjoyed reading "Don Quizote" for the sixth or seventh time. Irrigator files show that he was the final remaining charter subscriber to the newspaper. He is survived by his widow, Roberta, whom he married 44 years ago; a daughter, Mrs. May Wreden of San Francisco; two sons, sons, Robert of Patterson, and Carter of Modesto; four sisters, Mrs. Alice Werth, Mrs. Eloise Edmunds, Mrs. Mary Byrd Tucker and Isabelle Harrison, all of Virginia; and three grandchildren. He died suddenly and of unknown cause early Sunday morning in the back seat of a car driven by James L. Showers of Grayson. About 4:00 a.m. he had coffee in Newman, and then they drove to Patterson. When they arrived in Grayson, Showers couldn t awaken McCarty so took him to Del Puerto Hospital where he was diagnosed dead on arrival. No visible signs of foul play were found by Coroner E. Glenn Drake. An autopsy is being performed. His grandparents, the G. W. McCarty s of Grayson, with whom he had been staying, said. he had suffered a head injury while in the Navy and earlier had a record of heart trouble. He was a native of Oklahoma City and had served with the Navy in Korean waters. His home had been in Sacramento before moving to Grayson. Interment will be at Del Puerto Cemetery. The Rev. Nicolds; Services were held yesterday at 2 p.m. at Evans Chapel for Green Barry Nicolds, 86, who passed away Sunday afternoon at Del Puerto hospital after a lengthy illness. A native of Howard County, Missouri, he resided on Eucalyptus Ave., moving here in 1929. Nicolds operated a threshing machine and sawmill business, in Missouri and when he moved to Fresno in 1910, he entered into that business again. It was not the same however In Missouri he threshed with a steam driven traction engine and the same machine provided power for the sawmill in the winter. In Fresno, he threshed with a mule drawn thresher on the mile long fields of barley and wheat. He soon gave up threshing and went to work for the Valley Ice Co. In 1919 he was sent to Modesto as foreman in charge of storage icing on a new plant being constructed. This was later taken over by Pacific Fruit Express which owns it now. Nicolds and his family came to Patterson in 1929 and he started farming. He and his son had a fruit farm and for a few years a dairy ranch. He retired about six years ago. Rev. John Miller officiated at the services and interment was in Del Puerto Cemetery. Preceding him in death were four sisters and one brother. Nylund family were saddened last Thursday by the news of the untimely death of Lieutenant (jg.) Charles Nylund, 24, on the previous day. He was killed on a training mission when his carrier type Skyraider attack plane crashed into the sea 10 miles south of Pigeion Point off Santa Cruz. Chuck graduated from Patterson High where he had been an outstanding student as well as athlete and student leader. He was salutatorian of the Class of 1949. Before becoming a Navy pilot he had completed his college work at the University of California where he was commissioned in the ROTC program. The Nylund family lived in Patterson for six years. His father was pastor cf the Mission Covenant Church and is now an Army chaplain in Korea. The remainder of the Nylund family lives in Tacoma, Washington. He was a victim of a heart ailment. Rosary was conducted for him and high requiem mass Tuesday morning at the San Jose church. He was a native of Tercera, Azores, and came to Patterson in 1921. From then until 1934 he served at intervals as missionary priest here. In 1934 he was appointed pastor of Sacred Heart Church and served in that capacity until 1942 when he became pastor of The Church of Five Wounds. Surviving are a sister, who lived here as his housekeeper, now of Tercera; three nieces and a nephew in California. Ramos Matthew 550908 p1 Pilot, Passenger Die In Air Crash: Matthew Ramos; Joseph Frances Santos, 35, of Modesto, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Santos, live in Vernalis, was killed, along with his passenger, when he dived into the ground in a cow pasture north of Farmington Sunday afternoon. The passenger was the pilot s brother-in-law, Matthew Ramos, 29, of Farmington. The plane apparently got out, of control due to motor trouble and nose dived into the ground. The engine was pushed into the cabin, killing Santos immediately. Ramos died later from injuries. Riser Creed D 550908 p1 Milk Man Killed by Rifle Shot; The Golden State home delivery man here, Creed Dotson Riser, 39, was killed at 9:30 a. m. Tuesday when shot while delivering milk in Newman. The shooting was reported as accidental. Tinny Hansen, 14, of Newman was playing with a .30 caliber rifle when it discharged, killing Riser. Services are pending at the Davis-Hansen Chapel in Newman. Riser was a Newman resident. He is survived by his widow and four children. Santos Joseph F 550908 p1 Pilot, Passenger Die In Air Crash: Joseph Frances Santos; Joseph Frances Santos, 35, of Modesto, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Santos, live in Vernalis, was killed, along with his passenger, when he dived into the ground in a cow pasture north of Farmington Sunday afternoon. The passenger was the pilot s brother-in-law, Matthew Ramos, 29, of Farmington. The plane apparently got out, of control due to motor trouble and nose dived into the ground. The engine was pushed into the cabin, killing Santos immediately. Ramos died later from injuries. Services will be held at the Davis-Hanson Chapel in Newman. He had been convalescing at the home of his uncle, Manuel Bulcao of Sycamore Avenue, for the previous three months. Internment at Del Puerto Cemetery. He passed away last Friday in a Modesto Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Skidmore s sons, Ronald and Richard, and her daughter, Mrs. Don Gault, also attended. Richard is a U. S. Navy Airman at Corpus Christi and Ronald has a Texaco service station in Pacific Grove. Solie Eugene O Rev 550728 p1 Rev. Eugene Solie Passes in Turlock; Funeral services were held at the Beulah Covenant Church, Turlock, Monday for Rev. Eugene O. Solie, 27, son of Rev. and Mrs. Edwin O. Solie of Patterson. Officiating were the Rev. Gordon R Fredeen and Conference Superintendent Gordon A. Nelson, assisted by two of Solie's seminary classmates, Pastor Wayne Stark and Pastor Richard Christensen. The young minister passed away July 21 in Turlock after an illness of seven months. At Christmastime he suffered a slight concussion, the treatment of which led to the discovery of a rare blood disease. Specialists at Milwaukee and later at the University Hospital, Ann Arbor, Michigan, diagnosed his affliction as ideopathic throbocytopenic purpura, a disease affecting the blood platelets. Rev. Solie was pastor of the Milwaukee Covenant Church then, and at this turn of events he tape-recorded a message to his congregation, requesting their prayers for a miracle in his behalf but expressing complete confidence in the will of God if his ministry was to be terminated. A reporter attending the service used this as the basis of a United Press dispatch which was circulated throughout the nation, resulting in the prayers of thousands of strangers and friends and an unbelievable amount of mail bearing encouragement and the promise of spiritual support. His parents left Patterson early this year to be with the family in Milwaukee. In April both families came to Patterson. The younger Solie did well for a time, but he was again hospitalized in Turlock July 9. Rev. Eugene Solie was born in Chetek, Wisconsin, and he spent his childhood and youth in Foley, Minn., San Jose, Calif., and Powell Valley, Oregon. He enrolled at North Park College in Chicago and was graduated from the seminary in 1952. Further training was taken at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin, from which he graduated in 1954. He was ordained into the Covenant ministry at the annual conference at Rockford, Illinois, in June of that year. On September 14, 1951, he married Ruth Carlson in Warren, Minn. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Kathleen, two years, and Carol Jean, four months; his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Edwin O. Solie of Patterson; a sister, Mrs. Norman Johnson of Turlock. He was driving a bulldozer clearing trees on the river bottom when a tree snapped in two and fell on him, causing a severe concussion. Wise, 51, a resident of this area for about 15 years. He died Sunday in a Stockton hospital alter an illness of about two years. Wise had a dairy ranch on Apricot between Sycamore and Elm for 15 years. He sold out when he became ill. He was a native of Kansas. Surviving are a sister Mrs. Emma Hill of Long Beech; a nephew, Vilas Johnson of Modesto. and a niece, Leah Emig of Waterford. Wood William H 551222 p1 Services Held For Bill Wood; Services were held yesterday afternoon at Evans Chapel for William Henry Wood Jr., 57 , who passed away Sunday at Del Puerto hospital from a heart attack. Wood was a native of Gault, California, and came here 27 years ago. He and his son, Glenn, were distributors for Tidewater Associated Oil Co. in this area. Wood was recently appointed director of the Turlock Mosquito Abatement District for the Patterson area, and he has served long and faithfully in many public offices. From November, 1949, to November, 1950, Wood was president of the Patterson- Westley Chamber of Commerce, and he also served as a director. He served on the city council four years, was a trustee of the Patterson Elementary School District and served as a member of the Patterson Volunteer Fire Department. Wood was also a leader of the county Democratic party and one of his favorite pastimes was bating Republicans, playfully. He was a member of the Stockton Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Consistory of San Jose. Aahmes Shrine Temple, and Patterson Chapter 471, order of Eastern Star. Joint services were conducted by Rev. Kenneth Miller of Fairfield and by Patterson Lodge 488, Free and Accepted Masons. The remains were removed to Park View Crematory near Manteca for cremation. Wife of the Patterson member of the Stanislaus County Democratic Central Committee, she was known throughout state political circles and among national Democratic party leaders. She was a stalwart advocate of public water and power and made these policies known among Democratic leaders. For the past 49 years she was a resident of the Patterson Colony. Prior to that she had lived in Newman and Crows Landing. Interment for the native of Concord, Contra Costa County, will be at the Modesto Cemetery. Surviving are. her widower; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia A. Bubka of Pittsburg, Calif., and Mrs. Enid Mason of Dobbs Ferry, N.
