Adams Lloyd R 581030 p1 Services Held For Lloyd R. Adams; Final services were conducted Thursday at Evans Funeral Chapel for Lloyd H. Adams, 25, of Belden, who was killed instantly Monday in an accident at the Caribou Dam project. Adams was driving a euclid truck which was being pushed by another vehicle to start the engine at the top of the earth fill dam. A connecting cable broke and Adams' rig ran 489 feet down a ranch road on the down stream side of the dam. He was thrown from the vehicle and rolled beneath the wheels which crushed him to date (sic) death. Addington Jacob 581204 p1 Final Rites For Jacob Addington; Final rites were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Evans Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Charles Gaither, pastor of the Assembly of God church, for Jacob ( Jake ) Addington, 60. He died early last Friday morning in a Stockton hospital after a long illness. A native of Modoc County, he had lived in this area 34 years. He leaves his widow, Mary, of North First Street, two daughters, Linda Addington and Mrs. Geneva Rose, and sons Donald, James, Kenneth and Jacob, Jr.. all of Patterson, and another son, David Addington of the United States Army in Europe. Interment was in Del Puerto Cemetery. Ahart William L 580130 p1 Final Services For William Ahart; William Leonard Ahart, 56, passed away at his home in Modesto Monday morning following a heart attack. He had been employed for the past seven years at the W. C. Filippini Machine Shop which will be closed Thursday morning while employees attend services at Salas Brothers-Moore Funeral chapel in Modesto. Interment will be at Lakewood Memorial Park. Alvardo Alfred A 580605 p1 Services Pending for A. A. Alvarado; Services are pending at Evans Chapel for Alfred Ayla Alvarado, 30, who was killed in a one car auto accident Tuesday morning near the West Stanislaus Growers warehouse a mile south of Vernalis. Alvarado missed the turn and wound up in an orchard. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the county hospital. Alvarado had lived on Welty Road the past 14 months and operated a body and fender shop in Ernie Koenig s garage in Newman. He is survived by his wife, Charolett, of Vernalis; six children, Lucille, Fred Jr., Robert Gene, Gloria Mae, Ricky Andrew and Albert Anthony; and 10 brothers and sisters in Calexico. Archa Luther G 581113 p1 Final Services Held For Luther G. Archa; Final services were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. for Luther Gray Archa, 59, who passed away Friday in a Modesto hospital following a lengthy illness. A native of Texas, he had resided in Patterson for the past 20 years. He is survived by one brother, Jessie Archa of Patterson. Azevedo Final services were conducted Wednesday morning at the Pascoe-Botto Mortuary in Oakdale for Mrs. Maria Azevedo, 92, who died Saturday in a Ceres nursing home. Interment was in the Citizens Cemetery, Oakdale. She was the mother of John Azevedo of Patterson, Mrs. Rose Luiz of Boston, Mrs. Maria Maciel and Florindo Azevedo, both of the Azores Islands, and the late Manuel, George, and Joe Azevedo. Basham, 44, of Ventura, who was, struck by a car Sunday on Highway 99 north of Fresno. Survivors include two sons, Bill and Steve Basham of Patterson. Bays Michael E 581002 p1 Graveside Services Held For Bays Baby; A graveside service for Michael Eugene Bays, nine day old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Eugene Bays of Westley, was conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary s Catholic Cemetery in Patterson. The infant died Sunday night in a Modesto hospital. In addition to his parents, he leaves two sisters, Cathy and Jeanne Bays. The Evans Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Bowle William H 580717 p1 Services Held for William H. Bowie; Funeral services were conduced in Sacramento Monday morning for William H. Bowie, 77, who passed away in his Carmichael home Friday morning following a lengthy illness. Survivors include his wife, Ann; one son, William H. Bowie, Jr., of San Francisco; one grandchild; and four sisters, Mmes Roberta Harrison of Patterson, Clara Selbach of Los Angeles, May Hare of Oakland and Ada King of Carmichael. Clark Kenneth 580508 p1 Final Services For Kenneth Clark; Services were held Tuesday morning at Evans Chapel for Kenneth Clark, 43, who was killed in a single car auto accident Friday night on Highway 33 by the Crows Landing Navy Base. Rev. Edwin 0. Solie officiated and interment was at Del Puerto cemetery. Clark was on his way home from Newman about 9:50 p.m. last Friday when the accident occurred. California Highway Patrolmen surmise Clark was traveling at a high rate of speed and he was either distracted by planes flying at the navy base or his British sports car was thrown out of control when he crossed a spur track. The car slid broadside down the left side of the highway about 135 feet, skidded and rolled another 160 feet, threw Clark out crushing his skull, then skidded another 27 feet. Clark was a native of Jamestown, New York, and a graduate of Los Angeles schools. He entered the U S. Navy in 1940 and from 1943 to 1945 he served as an Aviation Radioman instructing in radio at the Crows Landing base. He served overseas a short time before discharge. He worked at the West Side Cleaners for a time and for the past 10 years has been a lineman for the PG&E. He is survived by his wife, Olga. Preceding him in death were his mother and father. Pall bearers were Americo Dompe, Herb Signorotti, Jim Danna, Earl Klein, Elwyn Delphia and Ernie Martin. Honorary pall bearers were the PG&E men Clark worked with. Collins Fred J 580918 p8 Final Rites For Fred J. Collins; Final rites were conducted Saturday morning in Evans Funeral Chapel for Fred .J. Collins, 70, of Oakland, who died Wednesday in Veterans Administration Hospital, Livermore, of tuberculosis. Patterson relatives are a niece, Mrs. VerDayne Williams, and nephew, Mayor John Evans. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Margaret Roland, of Oakland. A native of Indiana, Collins served with the United States Army in World War I, when he contracted tuberculosis; he had spent much of his life since that time tn veterans hospitals. Covello James L Jr 580501 p1 Graveside Services Held For Infant; Graveside services were conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. for James Leo Cove! Jr., two day old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Covelho of 504 South 4th Street. Born Friday morning at Det Puerto Hospital, the infant passed early Sunday. Interment was at Del Puerto Cemetery. Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister Pamela. Criswell Joseph 580116 p1 Final Services For Joseph Criswell; Final services were conducted in Coalinga. January 8 for Joseph Criswell, 75, who passed away January 5 following a short illness. A native of Trenton, Mo. he had resided in the Grayson area for 14 years prior to moving to Coalinga seven years ago. Survivors include four sisters and two brothers, Bertie Criswell of Grayson and other relatives in Arkansas. Services were conducted at the Adcock Bragg Mortuary in Coalinga with Rev. Gloria Fawcett of the Four Square Church officiating. Interment was at Armona, California. Criswell Kathleen E 581231 p1 Graveside Services For New-born Infant; Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday for Kathleen Elaine Criswell, stillborn daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Criswell of Westley. Walter Dunn of Grayson conducted the service for the infant who was born December 24 in a local hospital. Daniels Tommy 580925 p1 Services Are Held For Tommy Daniels, Car Wreck Victim; Freak Accident Hard to Explain; Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at Evans Funeral Chapel for Tommy Daniels, 17, with Rev. Albert Foster, pastor of the Federated Church, officiating. Interment was in Delano. Young Daniels was killed in a single car accident on Highway 33, a half mile south of Patterson, about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Daniels was a passenger in a car driven by Tony R. Duran, 20, of Westley. They were returning from a dance in Newman and the car drifted off the left side of road, skidded on the shoulder and turned end over end for 100 feet. Daniels was thrown our and killed instantly. Duran was hospitalized and treated for shock and had bruises of the thigh and elbow. He was released Sunday. Duran is a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton. He is home on furlough. Deputy Sheriff Frank Casler and Reserve Deputy Jack Metcalf were having a cup of coffee at Hazel's Cafe when the car drove by. They said the car was not going fast and they couldn't understand how the car suddenly tipped end over end. They theorized that the front wheel buckled under when the car hit the shoulder, causing the car to flip. Daniels is the son of Mr. and Mrs Charles H. Daniels of Barros Avenue. He worked for his father, who operated Daniels' Trucking Service. He is a June 1958 graduated of Patterson High where he played football and basketball. He was a member of the Patterson Chapter, Future Farmers of America, and the PUHS chorus. Daniels is survived by his parents and four sisters, Mrs. Barbara Williams of Grass Valley, Mrs. Lorene Cole of Patterson, Mrs. Leona Meyers of Cupertino and Miss Shirley Daniels of Patterson. Dias Carolina 580717 p1 Duplicate Service For Mr. and Mrs. Dias; Duplicate services were conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. for Frank Dias, Sr., 64, and Carolina Dias, 67, who passed away within two days of her husband. Mr. Dias succumbed suddenly Wednesday afternoon in his Sycamore Avenue home following a short illness. His wife, Carolina, died of a similar attack Friday morning in their home. Rosary was recited Friday at 8 p.m. in the Evans chapel with. the funeral mass being said in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment was in St Mary s Cemetery. Mrs. Dias had been bothered by a heart condition for some time and it seems the shock of her husband s death brought on the fatal attack. Both Mr. and Mrs. Dias were natives of Terceda, Azore Islands. Survivors include three sons and three daughters: Mrs. Mary Amador and Frank Dias, Jr., of Modesto; Sarah Wilson, Caroline Mendes, John Dias and Joe Dias of Patterson; 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Enright Mark 580911 p1 Crows Landing Man Is Feared To Be Drowned in River; Bulletin — The Irrigator learned at 5 p.m. yesterday, while going to press that Enright's body had been recovered from the San Joaquin River. Services are pending in Newman. Dragging operation along the San Joaquin River continued yesterday in an effort to locate the body of Mark Enright, 48, of Crows Landing, who is presumed to have drowned sometime Monday or Tuesday. The sheriff's office said a crew resumed the search yesterday morning after dragging the river Tuesday until dark. Headquarters had received no further word yesterday afternoon and presumed the body had not been located. Enright a heavy construction worker and welder, lives on River Road at Orestimba Creek, east of Crows Landing. He took his boat out Monday evening from the Crow and Moe Ranch three miles east of Crows Landing . He was last seen at 6 p.m. According to Enright's wife Shirley, her husband did not go boating after dark, but he sometimes camped along the river overnight. She didn't begin worrying until Tuesday morning and she and her brother Steve Crow, began a search. His car was located about noon and the boat was found about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. It was in the middle of the stream, snagged, with a hole in the center of the stern. The Sheriff's office was notified about 5 p.m. and dragging operations were begun by a crew under the supervision of Sgt. Jack Zietan. The motor was missing from the boat and the boat was about three-fourths full of water. His watch, cigarettes and lighter were found in the tool box. It was surmised Enright though the boat was going to sink and took the motor off to wade ashore with it. Estrada Francisco F 581030 p1 Services Held For Man Killed in Crash; A funeral mass was held Monday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church Monday for Francisco Fernandez Estrada, 29, who died in the crash of his auto Wednesday evening. Rosary was recited Sunday evening at Evans Funeral Chapel and interment was in St. Mary s Cemetery. Estrada s car ran off Highway 33 at Manetti s Corner and hit a railroad signal pole then bounced into a guard rail. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Del Puerto Hospital at 9:40 p.m. A native of Mexico, he had lived in the Patterson and Westley district since August, 1955. Survivors include three brothers, Jose of Manteca, Juan Antonio of Salinas and Gregory of Arizona. Filippini Chastie N 580403 p2 Mrs. C. Filippini Services Wednesday; Services were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Davis-Hansen Funeral Chapel in Newman for Chastie N. Filippini, 89, who died in her Crows Landing home Sunday evening. A native of Malma, Sweden, she came to the United States and settled in Marin County when 26 years of age. She moved to Newman in 1896 and thence to Crows Landing here she has resided for the past 57 years. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Florence Hendy of Newman, Mrs. Charlotte Viroman of Los Angeles and Mrs. Lily Hornbastel of Sacramento; and four sons, Walter of Patterson and Lloyd, William and Charles Filippini all of Crows Landing. Frunz Marie 580227 p1 Services Held For Mrs. Marie Frunz; Services were conducted Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Mrs. Marie Frunz, 77, who passed away in Del Puerto Hospital following a short illness. A native of Switzerland, she came to the United States in 1901 and had resided in Patterson for the past 38 years. She was a member of the Altar Society of the Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Nick Frunz, of Patterson; sons, John, Frank, and Carl Frunz of Patterson, two daughters, Miss Pauline Frunz of Berkeley and Mrs. Mary Curran of San Carlos; and nine grandchildren. Rosary was recited Tuesday evening at Evans Funeral Chapel and interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery. Geishewski Frank 580220 p1 Two Killed in Hwy. 33 Accident; William Thompson, 21, of Anderson, was killed instantly and Frank Geishewski, 19, Crows Landing Naval Auxiliary Landing Field, died eight hours later in Del Puerto Hospital following a Highway 33 crash at 2:50 a.m. Monday. The auto driven by Roger Vickers, 19, another sailor, plunged from the Orestimba Creek bridge. Highway patrolmen said the auto rode the bridge rail, plunged 30 feet through the air and hit so hard it rolled 84 feet uphill. Vickers was thrown free and injured seriously. Geishewskl fell free but the rolling car dropped on him, pinning him to the ground. Del Puerto Hospital lists Vicker s condition as fair. Gourley Robert 581120 p1 Services. Held for Robert Gourley; Funeral services were conducted in Ridgewood, New Jersey, November 7, for Robert Gourley, 77, who passed away November 5, following a lengthy illness. Interment was in George Washington Cemetery, Ridgewood, New Jersey. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Gourley of Ridgewood; two daughters, Mrs. Monie Anderson of Patterson, and Mrs. Jean Hanson of Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey. Mr. and Mrs. Gourley were well known in Patterson where they had visited many times with their daughter Mrs. Anderson. Mrs. Anderson flew east to attend services for her father Gray Roy L 581231 p1 Suicide Found Parked in Car on Ellery Ranch; The Stanislaus County Sheriff s Department is investigating the suicide of Roy Lee Gray, 48, of Texas, who was found in a parked car on the Henry Ellery Ranch west of Westley at 9 a.m. Tuesday. A man irrigating on the ranch Monday saw Gray, alive, sitting on the car at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, with the car still parked there, the man investigated, saw Gray s body and called the sheriff s office. Inspector Sgt. Gagnebin and Jim Elliott of the identification bureau investigated. They found Gray had shot himself in the head with a .38 revolver. Gray was a cook at the Westley Hotel. Services are pending at Salas Bros. Chapel in Modesto. Among the survivors are two brothers, Earl and Ed, and a son, Arnold Leroy, all of Modesto. Harris Claya M 580403 p1 Services Held For Mrs. Claya Harris; Final services were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday for Mrs.Claya Margarte Harris, 35, who died Friday night in a Modesto hospital following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Harris was a native of Los Banos and had resided in the area for a number of years. Survivors include her husband, James B. Harris of Modesto; a daughter, Janet Rommel of Patterson; three brothers, Mike Alberti and Virie Alberti of Patterson and Louie Alberti of Modesto; two sisters, Mrs. June Wheeland and Miss Dorris Alberti of Patterson, and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Alberti of Patterson. Hass Ralph Ebert 580731 p8 Services Held For Ralph Elbert Hass; Final services were conducted Tuesday morning at the Franklin & Downs Funeral Home in Modesto for Ralph Elbert Hass, 77, who passed away Sunday following a lengthy illness. A native of Kansas, he was the father of Brent Hass of Patterson; Ellsworth Hass, Modesto; Doris Borkman of Apple Valley; and Earl Hass, San Jose; brother of Ernest Hass, Grass Valley and Arthur Hass and Gertrude Whitcomb of Hesperia. Hubbard Randall L 580717 p1 Graveside Services For Hubbard Baby; Graveside services will be conducted this afternoon for Randall Lee Hubbard, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. James P. Hubbard of Barros Avenue, Patterson who passed away shortly after birth July 15. Evans Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements and interment will be in Del Puerto Cemetery. Ielmini James Michael 580904 p1 Youngster Drowns in Private Pool; Resuscitators Fail To Help; Services were held at Evans Chapel yesterday afternoon for James Michael Ielmini, 2 ½ year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ielmini, with Father J. V. Connors officiating. Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery. Young Ielmini drowned Tuesday shortly after lunch in a private swimming pool. Mrs. Ielmini and Michel and a younger son, Johnnie, had lunch Tuesday with Mrs. Fred Voit and her two sons. They finished lunch at about 12 noon and the children were out to play. Mrs. Ielmini and Mrs. Voit thought the children were on the side of the house away from the pool. At about 12;20, Mrs. Ielmini saw young James floating face up in the Voit's swimming pool around the two foot depth. She immediately jumped in and pulled the boy out and she and Mrs. Voit hurried him to Del Puerto Hospital. The hospital staff and five volunteer firemen alternated with two resuscitators and worked on the youth for 30 minutes, but could get no response. It was surmised the youngster might have reached into the pool for a toy boat, and fallen in. Mrs. Ielmini was hospitalized for shock treatment Tuesday afternoon and released that night. Young James' father is Quality control manager at Patterson Frozen Foods which is owned by his grandfather and grand uncle, Alfonso and Mario Ielmini. Fred Voit is plant superintendent. His grandparents on his mothers's side are Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Penny of Denair. Ingebretsen Ingeborg L 581023 p1 Mrs. K. Ingebretsen Service Wednesday; by Rev. Walter Holtan; Mrs. Karl Ingebretsen, a resident of Patterson for 44 years, passed away Monday at 10:15 a.m. at the Del Puerto hospital where she had been a patient for two and a half months. She attained the age of 68 years. Ingeborg Lilleland lngebretsen was born September 18, 1890 in Stavenger, Norway of Captain A O. Lilleland and Laura Lilleland. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Norway. She also received her education there. In 1909 Captain Lilleland brought his wife and family to San Francisco on the ship which he sailed. On April 12, 1914 in San Francisco lngeborg Lilleland was united in marriage to Karl Ingebretsen. They moved to Patterson to establish their home and have resided on the Ingebretsen ranch on Del Puerto since. To this union the following children were born: Karl Hilmar, Colusa; Arne Odin, Sacramento; Laura Helene Styron, Hayward; and Omund Leland, Fresno; Mrs Ingebretsen is also mourned by her 93 year old mother Laura Lilleland of Patterson; her husband, Karl, a sister, Mrs. Carroll Rice, Piedmont; three brothers, Dr. Omund Lilleland, Davis; Ole Lilleland, Pasadena; and Bertrand Lilleland, Sacramento. She also leaves eight grandchildren. Mrs. Ingebretsen's interests centered in her home and family. She had a host of friends whom she liked to entertain. She was a member of Our Saviour s Lutheran Church and a life member of the W.M.F. Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning from Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. A group of ladies sang. "Softly the Daylight Faded." Pastor E. B Kluver also brought a message. The following served as pall bearers: Julius Hatlen, Alfred Knutson, Axel Alberg, Carl Busengdal, Marion Olson and Harold Tronstad. Interment was made in the Del Puerto cemetery with Walter Holtan, the local pastor in charge. Isquerdo Roberto S 580731 p8 Graveside Service For Young Boy; Graveside services were held Friday at St. Mary s Cemetery for Roberto S. Isquerdo, 12 month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Isquerdo of Walnut Camp. The youngster died suddenly early last Thursday morning at a Modesto hospital. An autopsy is being performed to determine cause of death. He is survived by his parents and four brothers, Jose, Julian, Junior and Adelo. Evans Chapel made funeral arrangements. Jacabo Ascencion 580522 p1 Local Man Dies Suddenly in Car; Ascencion Jacobo, died suddenly of unknown causes while on his way home Tuesday for a family party celebrating his 41st birthday. Jacobo was found by Reserve Deputy Sheriff Jack Metcalf in his parked cat alongside High way 33 north of Sequoia Ave. Metcalf had passed the ear earlier and on the second trip by at 8 p.m. he checked and found Jacobo laying across the front seat. The car motor was still running. Metcalf called the CHP and County Coroner Herbert Paul who pronounced Jacobo dead. The CHP surmised Jacobo, was taken suddenly ill and pulled over to the side of the road. The infant became ill Friday and was brought to the hospital Monday at 10:40 where she died two hours later. Stanislaus County Coroner Herbert Paul of Modesto performed an autopsy which revealed the infant died of bronchial pneumonia. The body was removed to Greenlawn Chapel, Bakersfield for services. Jackson, 41, who passed away suddenly Thursday evening in his Sperry Avenue home. A native of Oklahoma, he had resided in Patterson for 25 years. Doyle was converted and joined the Baptist Church in Patterson in 1952. He was very active in the church. He was a deacon, and Training Union Director in the local church and on the board of directors of the New Hope Baptist Association Training Union Department. He was also able to fill the pulpit of the church and did so on April 6, 1958. He was a loyal servant of the Lord and his church. Survivors include his widow, Opal; two sons, Kenneth, who is serving with the Navy in Japan; Gerald who is with the Navy in San Diego; and a daughter, Genese Jackson of Patterson. The Navy flew both Kenneth and Gerald home for the services for their father. Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. O. Jackson, and a brother, Calvin of Patterson, and one grandchild. Longo operated the Longo Realty here for the past several years. He was a native of Italy, had lived in Stanislaus County the past 26 years and in the state the past 38 years. The sisters, Mrs. 0choa thought to be driving, were westbound on Las Palmas Avenue en route to take Ynacio to the doctor. The southbound SP freight pulling 33 cars and the caboose, a local running between Tracy and Los Banos, was traveling at a speed estimated by witnesses at about 30 miles an hour, when the crash occurred at about 10:15 a.m. Fireman H. Williams of Tracy said he saw the car traveling at a slow rate of speed toward the crossing where the red signal lights and bell were giving the warning. Suddenly he realized the driver was making no attempt to stop and alerted Engineer J. E. Robinson, who made an emergency application of the diesel engine's brakes. The car crashed into the left front of the engine and was slammed against an 8 by 8 inch post 36 feet east of the point of impact. All three occupants were thrown out of the car, Mrs. Ochoa being thrown 72 feet south and almost under the train. The infant was killed instantly and Miss Mesa died about 40 minutes later of severe head injuries in Del Puerto Hospital. Mrs. Ochoa was treated here for multiple severe scalp lacerations, concussion and possible skull fracture. She later was transferred to the county hospital, where attendants list her condition as critical. The freight engine was stopped just at the north side of E Street, about 600 feet south of Las Palmas Avenue, its left ladder and steps damaged. There was about a 35 minute wait before a Modesto ambulance arrived at the scene, followed seconds later by the arrival of an ambulance from the Crows Landing Naval Auxiliary Landing Field. Olson Mark E 580828 p1 Funeral Services For Eight Month Old Boy; Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church for Mark Evan Olson, eight month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Olson. Mark Evan was born in Denver, Colorado, November 26; 1957 and would have been nine months old Tuesday of this week. He was three months old before his parents discovered he had a heart condition, a hole in the heart, which kept the blood from circulating properly through his body. He was under the care of a heart specialist in Denver until the Olson s moved here, when a heart specialist from San Francisco took over. The baby s parents took him to Denver for surgery and the operation was termed a success, but the baby died from unknown complications. An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death. With the baby in Denver were, his parents, his father s father, Marion Olson, and his mother's mother, Mrs. Roy Osterli. Interment was at Del Puerto Cemetery. She went to school in San Lorenzo and in Centerville, and in April 1892, she was married to Manuel Rogers in Centerville. Of her three children, only her daughter, Emily Hanson survives. One son Frank, died at the age of 19 and the other son, Dan, was killed several years ago in an automobile accident. She is also survived by two grandsons, Jim Rogers of San Francisco and Bill Rogers of Fresno. Young Rose, manager of a supermarket in the outer Mission District, San Francisco, was shot Sunday evening by a trigger happy Ohio gunman, Robert Halligan, alias Dan Sullivan, 24. The auto driven by Roger Vickers, 19, another sailor, plunged from the Orestimba Creek bridge. Highway patrolmen said the auto rode the bridge rail, plunged 30 feet through the air and hit so hard it rolled 84 feet uphill. Vickers was thrown free and injured seriously. Tonkin, 42, former chef at Del Puerto Hotel in Patterson, died in his Santa Cruz home at 6:20 p.m. Saturday from asphyxiation. Fire engulfed his home, which was a total loss, while, his wife and two children were visiting her, father. A smouldering cigarette was said to be the cause of the blaze which cost Tonkin his life. Halsted Gates officiated and interment was in the Masonic Cemetery. Young, co-owner of the Cathay House in Modesto, was found in his car at Sixteenth and I Street about 9:30 a.m. Sunday. He was partly out of the car when found. After a doctor s checkup, Young was hospitalized but died at 4:25 p.m. Coroner Herbert Paul, who performed an autopsy, stated a brain clot was the cause of death. Young, a native of China, had resided in the Modesto area for the past 37 years and attended the local schools. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, Lucy; a son, Theodore Allen Young; his mother, Mrs. Bo Kee Young, all of Modesto; three brothers, Martin Wong and Robert Sing of Modesto, and Edmond Sing of Portland, Ore.; a stepbrother Gordon Young of Modesto, and two stepsisters, Maria Young, the other co- owner of the Cathay House, and Mrs. Wilma J. Fukui of Salinas. His widow is the owner of Lucy s Attic on south Third Street in Patterson which opened recently.
