Coleman in July 13 newspaper Coleman A B 610713 p1 Mystery Drowning Believed Murder; The mystery drowning of a 37 year-old unidentified Negro, who has since been identified as A.B. Coleman, still presents a mystery and authorities are working on the angle that Coleman may have been murdered. The victim, a clothes presser who had been missing from Stockton since June 24, was found in the Delta Mendota Canal approximately a week ago and had been identified through fingerprints. According to Detective Sergeant Jerry Starr of Modesto, there are several indications that Coleman may have been a victim of foul play. All identification was stripped from his body when he was found. His relatives reported him last seen on his way to work, and there was no known reason for Coleman to be in the vicinity of the Delta Mendota since he was not a fisherman. Coleman had been having some trouble with other acquaintances in Stockton, reported Starr. There is also the possibility that Coleman may have been pushed or thrown into the huge canal and, according to Starr, he would have a very difficult time getting out. Authorities who questioned Mr. Coleman s exwife reported she was on good terms with her former husband and he visited her and their two children often. She described him as a "reliable" man and a "good worker." There is still the question of whether Coleman went into the water in San Joaquin or Stanislaus County.
