Baker Maurice 620628 p5 Patterson Man Succumbs; Maurice Baker, 61, an employee of the Austin Trucking Company of Patterson, died in a Modesto hospital after a short confinement. Mr. Baker who lived in Patterson, was interred last Friday. Graveside services were conducted. The Evans Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements. Barbaste John 620315 p1 John Barbaste, 75, Passes Away; John Barbaste died at his home on Pomelo Avenue, Patterson, last week at the age of 75. A native of France, from the Pyrenees section, he came to this country in 1903 and had lived in Patterson since 1914 where he was a dairyman. He is survived by his widow, Jeanne; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Bicary and a son Martin Barbaste, and 3 grandchildren, all of Patterson. He also leaves a brother Martin of Riverside. A rosary service was recited at Evans Funeral Chapel on Sunday and burial took place on Monday in St. Mary's Cemetery, Patterson. Bingham Benjamin R 620712 p1 B. R. Bingham Succumbs; Benjamin Russ Bingham, 91, a resident of Patterson for more than 50 years died in a Ceres nursing home last week. Mr. Bingham was a native of Alabama. He leaves three sons, John W. Bingham of Gustine, Jerry N. and Stephen Bingham of Vernalis. He is also survived by two daughters Sarah Mendes of Long Beach and Molly Foster of Daly City. He also leaves three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Final rites were conducted at the Evans Funeral Chapel. Burial was at the Del Puerto Cemetery. The family requests that remembrances be sent to the Church of Christ Orphans Home at Ontario, California Bowers Dewey C 621220 p6 Service Held for Dewey Bowers; Funeral services were conducted Monday for Dewey Clayton Bowers, 64, who died last Friday afternoon. Services was held in Evans Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Franklin Satterberg officiated and burial was in Del Puerto Cemetery. Bowers had lived in Patterson for 35 years. He was a native of Ohio. He had been employed by the Patterson Ranch Company during the time he lived here. He is survived by his wife, Adeline; five daughters, Mrs. Lois Farinha, Mrs. Barbara Thorkelson, and Mrs. Jane Benson, all of Patterson, Mrs. Margie Johnson of Merced, and Mrs. Sharon Van Erp of Seattle, Washington. He is also survived by one son, Stanley, of Patterson; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Litchy and. Thelma Metz, and a brother, Otto Metz, all in the east and 10 grandchildren. Brainard Clifton H 620809 p1 Former Resident Passes Away; A former Patterson Policeman and sanitation department employee, Clifton Howard Brainard, Sr., 59, died last week in a Modesto hospital. Mr. Brainard and his wife left Patterson about four years ago to live in Hayward but recently removed to Modesto. Patterson had been his home for twenty years. He is survived by his wife, Pearl; seven daughters, Mrs. Betty Emmons of Patterson, Mrs. Margaret Santos and Leola Brainard of Modesto; Mrs. Liala Kircoff and Mrs. Buelah Boyd, both of San Jose; Mrs. Jane Brown of Hayward and Mrs. Winifred Strochbush of Wisconsin. He also leaves two sons, Clifton and LeRoy Brainard of Patterson; three brothers; two sisters and 20 grandchildren. Services were held in the Evans Funeral Chapel and the Reverend Henry C. Vancil of Hayward officiated. Interment was in Del Puerto Cemetery. Bulcao Julia 620405 p1 Mrs. J. Bulcao 66, Deceased; Mrs. Julia Bulcao, 66, of Sycamore Avenue, Patterson died last Monday in the Del Puerto Hospital. A resident of Patterson for 22 years, Mrs. Bulcao came to this country from Faial Island, in the Azores. She is survived by her husband Manuel and three daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Azevedo of Patterson; Mrs. Mary Oliviera of Oxnard and Mrs. Roslyn Escobar of Newman. Mrs. Bulcao also leaves 10 grandchildren. The deceased was a member of the Legion of Mary of Patterson, as well as the SPRSI, Council No. 121, who conducted a Rosary on Wednesday, 8 p.m. at Evans Funeral Chapel. Father H. J. Beutler of the Sacred Heart Church of Patterson said a Rosary immediately following. A funeral Mass is being held today at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, followed by interment at St. Mary's Cemetery. Cabral Victor 620118 p1 Requiem Mass For Victor Cabral; Requiem mass was conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sacral Heart Catholic Church for Victor Cabral, 78, who died Friday in a Modesto hospital after a long illness. Rosary was recited Monday evening in Evans Chapel and interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery. A native of Santa Maria Island, Azores, Mr. Cabral had lived in Patterson 33 years and had been employed for many years at the Libby, McNeil & Libby plant here. Recently he had lived with his niece, Mrs. Mary Figueiredo. He also leaves a stepson, Daniel Rezendes, and several great nieces and nephews in Patterson. He was a member of UPEC Lodge No. 25, Oakland. Campbell W Ward 620719 p3 W. Ward Campbell Succumbs After Brief Illness; William Ward Campbell, resident of Patterson since 1928, died Sunday night in a local hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Campbell was born in Talbert, a small town located in Southern California but was raised in the vicinity of Van Nuys. His father was one of the founders of Van Nuys. All his early schooling was received in Van Nuys and upon graduation entered the University of Southern California. Ill health forced him to leave the University after which he turned to farming with his father. He met his wife, the former Gladys Fulton, in Van Nuys about 1925 at a Sunday school class conducted by Mr. Charles Bevis, father of Al Bevis, Patterson rancher. Mr. Campbell was a member of the Van Nuys Methodist Church. He came to Patterson in 1928 and bought a ranch. He returned to Van Nuys to marry and the young couple settled in Patterson in 1929. The depression did not spare Mr. Campbell and the first seven years in Patterson were very difficult ones for him and his family. However, he eventually became one of the more successful farmers on the Westside. He was very active in Church work and joined the Federated Church in Patterson during the tenure of Dr. Preston, a Presbyterian minister with whom he became very friendly. Mr. Campbell was a member of the executive board of his Church for 32 years. At the time of his death he was also serving as chairman of the Finance Commission of the Federated Church. He was a member of Rotary Club, a director-at-large of the Stanislaus County Farm Bureau and had been active in farm organization work.. He is survived by his wife, Gladys; a son Lauren and his brother, J. Marler Campbell. He leaves three grandchildren, all of Patterson; and a sister Mrs. Jenny Beacher of Washington. Cardoso Mary C 620101 p1 Mary C. Cardoso, 59, Succumbs; Mary C. Cardoso, 59, who managed Kamp's Clothing Store in Patterson died Tuesday in a Modesto Hospital. The deceased was a native of Merced and a former resident of Livingston. She was a member of the Livingston Council 120, SPRSI; Livingston Unit 728, American Legion Auxiliary and was a soial member of the UPEC 29 of Merced. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Barbara Avellar of Livingston; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Rodrigues of Livingston and Mrs. Alice Mattos of Merced; and a brother Gilbert Avellar of Merced. Funeral services were held in Merced and interment was at Calvary Cemetery. Cole Dennis 620329 p1 Fast Draw Results in Tragedy; Patterson was the scene of a tragic accident last Sunday when Dennis Cole of Ceres was killed about 50 feet front Las Palmas Bridge by a friend who forgot his revolver was loaded. Practicing a fast draw, Gary Black, 18, also of Ceres fired at Cole from a distance of about six feet. They had come to the area to hunt rabbits. Black was released to the custody of his parents pending further investigation. The boy was dead before they reached Del Puerto Hospital. Cole was a senior at Ceres Union High School and had planned to enter the air force upon his graduation. Cook Evelyn 620426 p1 Private Rites for Mrs. Evelyn Cook; Private services were conducted Monday afternoon in Evans Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Evelyn Cook, 62, mother of Mrs. Geraldine Pedroni. Mrs. Cook died suddenly Thursday at her home in Santa Cruz. She also leaves her husband, L. A. Cook, Sr., of Santa Cruz and two granddaughters. The remains were taken to Lakewood Memorial Park near Empire. Returning from the happy occasion at Napa, Alberto Cordova was following the ill- fated car in which his 21 year old wife Alice and 14 month old daughter Susan were passengers along with his brother Arthur 22; and his sister-in-law Modesto Garcia, 13; and his brother Edward, 17. He watched as the tail lights of the car disappeared around a curve on Highway 29, 13 miles north of Napa. A few minutes later he came upon the car which had crashed into a tree and all five occupants lay on the ground — thrown from the car. His wife and daughter were dead as was his brother Arthur and the other two passengers. Mrs. Cordova is survived by her husband and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesus Garcia of Napa. She also leaves two sisters and four brothers. Miss Cox died Tuesday night, December l8, at Del Puerto hospital where she had been confined since March. The services will be conducted from the Shannon and Carmody Funeral Chapel in Modesto. The Rev. Albert W. Foster will officiate at the services. Burial will be in the family plot in Citizens Cemetery in Modesto. Miss Cox is the daughter of John Dunlap and Rebecca Cox, pioneer Grayson settlers. The family moved into their present home on Pole Line Road in 1870. She is survived by one sister, Mable, and one brother, W. W. Cox, both of Westley. Two brothers Frank and John preceded her in death. Cozzitorto Marie 621011 p3 Marie Cozzitorto Services Yesterday; Funeral services were held Wednesday morning for Marie Cozzitorto, 70, of Patterson. Death occurred early Sunday morning at Del Puerto hospital following a long illness. Mrs. Cozzitorto, a native of Italy, had lived in Patterson for 15 years. She is survived by one son, Antonio of Patterson, one daughter, Caroline Fasno of New York, and three grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers: Antonio Diurno of New York, Angelo Diurno of Italy, and Louie Diurno of Argentina. Evans Funeral Chapel directed the funeral arrangements. Crawford Walter W 620201 p1 Area Resident Succumbs; A former resident of Westley and a member of the Patterson American Legion, Walter W. Crawford 66 died in Modesto Hospital Sunday, January 28. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and. Mrs. Marcel Chapuis of 222 North 6 Street, Patterson. Mr. Crawford was an auditor for the State Equalization Board for 30 years and had lived in Modesto for only one year before his death. In addition to his Legion membership he was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans of San Jose. He leaves his widow Virginia Norman Crawford; one son William of Oakland; and a sister Anna B. Crawford of Mississippi. Crow Sheldon B 620301 p1 Sheldon B. Crow Succumbs At 67; Sheldon Braly Crow, 67, of Newman, died Sunday, February 25 at the Veterans' Hospital in Livermore. A native of Crows Landing and a poultry farmer, he lived in this area all his life. Mr. Crow has been a trustee of the Newman Grammar School District and was active in Boy Scouts work. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Crow, who operates stores in Newman and Patterson under the name of Katy Crow. He leaves two sons, Sheldon, Jr., of Newman and Donald of Los Angeles. He is survived by two brothers John B. Crow of Pasadena and Mervin K. Crow of Crows Landing, as well as two grandchildren. Mr. Crow was a member of Hills Ferry Masonic Lodge in Newman, the American Legion, Post No. 110 and the Stanislaus County Schools Redistricting Committee. Services will be held Thursday, March 1st at the Davis-Hansen Chapel in Newman with the Hills Ferry Masonic Temple Lodge officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Lakewood Memorial Park. Cryer Ralph H 620802 p1 Ralph H. Cryer Passes Away; Ralph Huston Cryer, 74, a resident of Patterson where he farmed since 1935 died at a local hospital, August 1 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, Amanda, a son, W. T. Cryer and a daughter, Mrs. Edwin Housewright, all of Patterson. He also leaves another daughter, Mrs. John Baugh of Los Banos, a son Luke Cryer of Torrance and a brother, Ovid Cryer of Electra, Texas. The deceased had 17 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at Evans Funeral Chapel at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Del Puerto Cemetery. Rev. E. De Ponta Teresa 621004 p6 Teresa De Ponta, Long Time Resident Buried On Monday; Funeral services were held Monday for Teresa De Ponta, 70, of Patterson. Death occurred last week following a short illness. Requiem mass was recited at 10 a..m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic church. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery. Mrs. De Ponta was a native of the Azores islands. She had lived in Patterson for the past 41 years. She was a member of Council 121 UPPEC. Dearing Josephine M 620726 p1 Long Time Resident Succumbs; Josephine Mary Dearing, 80, a resident of Patterson since 1918 died last Monday at a local hospital. She had been in poor health for some time. She is survived by her husband Harry and three sons, Robert of Patterson, George of Los Angeles and Warren of Canoga Park. She also leaves three daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Hupp of Turlock ; Mrs. Bemice Browning of Reno and Mrs. Virginia Medalen of Stockton. The deceased had 11 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Services were held at the Norton Chapel in Turlock. DeLash Dan 620426 p1 Requiem Mass For Dan DeLash; Dan DeLash, 50, died Thursday afternoon in the Livermore Veterans Hospital after a long illness. A native of Gustine, he had been employed by Arden Farms here 14 years. He was a veteran of World War II. Dompe Eleanora 620412 p1 Mrs. E. Dompe Succumbs; Mrs. Eleanora Dompe, 76, died on April 10 at the local hospital after a short illness. Mrs. Dompe is survived by six children, 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was a resident of Patterson for 20 years, having come from the Tracy area. She was a native of Bene Vagienna, Italy. Duran Cletadio 620329 p1 Patterson Man Passes Away; Cletadio Duran, 72, died at the East Las Palmas Avenue home of his father-in-law Mathias Gusman last Monday. A native of Mexico, Mr. Duran had lived in Patterson for the past 15 years. He is survived by a daughter Maria Gusman of Patterson, and a son John Duran of Kerman. He also leaves 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Father H. J. Beutler of the Sacred Heart Church of Patterson officiated at a requiem mass last Tuesday. Ford Linda 620322 p1 Mrs. Linda Ford, 75, Deceased; Mrs. Linda Ford, 75, was found dead at 5:15 p.m. Monday in the yard of her home at 670 I Street, Patterson, by her daughter Mrs. Francis Hoessel. Mrs. Ford who was predeceased by her husband F. E. ( Pop ) Ford in July 1960 is survived by her daughter Mrs. Hoessel and a son Leroy who lives in Santa Cruz. The deceased was a native of Morgan Valley in Contra Costa county and had lived in Patterson for the past twenty years. She was a well known collector in the valley. Among them was one of buttons that ran into the thousands. She was a member of the Button Club of Stockton. She also collected Majolica ware and hat pins. Services will be held at the Evans Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Albert Foster of the Methodist Church, presiding. Following cremation, burial services will be held at the Alamo Cemetery in Danville, California. Alta Grace George was a native of Guadalajara, Mexico, and lived in Patterson for many years before moving to the bay area. She had lived in the bay area about 16 years. Rosary was held Sunday evening at Evans Chapel. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery. Mrs. George is survived by one daughter, Emma Mazzoni of Modesto, and one son, Charles J. George of San Francisco. Ghisletta Sandra K 620329 p1 S. Ghisletta, 3, Deceased; Sandra K. Ghisletta, 3, in ill health since birth, died Saturday night at the Del Puerto Hospital. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Ghisletta of 19 South 5th Street, Patterson. The child is survived by three sisters, Debra, Pamela and Quana and her grandmother Mrs. Mary Ghisletta of Patterson. The Reverend D. Edward Park, of the Assembly of God Church officiated at the final rites held in the Church on Wednesday. Interment was at the Del Puerto Cemetery. Gordon Clara F 620614 p1 Former Resident Passes Away; Last rites were conducted Monday morning at the B. C. Wallace & Son Funeral Chapel in Stockton for Mrs. Clara F. Gordon, 84, who died last Thursday in Stockton. A native of San Joaquin County, Mrs. Gordon had lived in Patterson 34 years until she moved to Stockton two years ago. Grischott Martin 621129 p1 Martin Grischott Suffers Fatal Injury At Rail Crossing Tuesday; Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Thurs., for Martin Grischott of Bartch avenue who was fatally injured when his car struck a freight train Tuesday morning. Grischott, 78, a semi retired carpenter, was driving to work Tuesday morning about 8 a. m. and apparently did not stop for the rail crossing sign on the private driveway of Patterson Lumber Company. He was making a right turn from the highway to the east. His car was dragged and rolled approximately 75 feet. He was thrown from the car. Grischott was rushed to Del Puerto hospital but died about 3 hours later. The engineer of the 66-car train said the train was doing 39 miles per hour in a slight fog. Grischott was a native of Switzerland, but had lived on the West Side since 1913. Hendricks, former resident agent for the Southern Pacific railroad in Patterson, was found dead in the depot early Monday morning. Mr. Hendricks, 37, had been resident agent here since February. However, he was recently discharged by the railroad. He had been with Southern Pacific for 16 years. Mr. Hendricks was found by his brother, Martin, of Modesto, about 7:30 a.m. Monday in a room on the second floor of the depot. When he was found, it was assumed he had been dead for two or three days. His family had not been able to locate him for several days. Death was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the chest. A revolver and sealed notes to his parents, wife, and son were found nearby. Mr. Hendricks is survived by his parents of Modesto, his wife Marsha, and son, Mike, of Sacramento. Hutton Sutherland 621108 p1 One Dead In Car-Train Accident Sat.; Sutherland Hutton. 52, of Orinda, was fatally injured early last Saturday morning when the car in which he was riding struck a Southern Pacific freight train. The accident occurred at the south edge of Patterson at an SP spur. Russell Bugroden of El Sobrante was driving the car. He received a crushed chest. He was treated at Del Puerto hospital and transferred to the Albany hospital. Hutton died about 2 1/2 hours following the accident. Police report that there were no flares, or warning signals at the spur crossing and that the driver apparently did not see the train. The two men were going duck shooting. Olivera Joseph J 620830 p1 Patterson Man Accident Victim; A Patterson man was killed when a tractor he was loading on a trailer fell on him. Joseph James Olivera, 55, died at Memorial Hospital from multiple rib fractures and other internal injuries. An autopsy was ordered by Coroner Morris Feldman. Three passerbys witnessed the accident which occurred on East River Road in South Modesto. They lifted the tractor and pulled Olivera out but they estimated that he was pinned for at least five minutes. He had been discing and was attempting to load the tractor on a low trailer when it toppled over on him. He was employed by Mike Mattos, a commercial bailing firm of Patterson and a company spokesman said that the dead man had loaded the tractor on the same trailer "hundreds of times". Mr. Olivera had been employed by the firm for seven years. A native of Santa Maria, Mr. Olivera had been an agricultural worker in the Patterson area for almost 15 years. He was a member of the Patterson IDES Council. He is survived by his widow Mary and a son, Joseph, Jr. of Patterson; his mother, Mrs. Filomena Olivera of Santa Maria; three brothers, Frank and Manuel of Tranquillity and Edward of Ceres. Schmick Deceased; Henry William Schmick passed away on April 7 at local hospital after a long illness. A native of Russia, he had lived in Patterson since 1948. He was a retired farm worker. An active Mason, Mr. Schmick belonged to the Patterson Lodge No. 488, F. & A.M. as well as to the Mystic Tie Lodge No. 103 of Colton, Wash. He was a member of the Patterson Chapter No. 417, Order of; the Eastern Star, the Colfax Commandery No. 15, York Rites of Colfax, Wash., and the El Katif Shrine Temple of Spokane, Wash. He was a past president of Garborg Lodge No. 56, Sons of Norway. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Eva Bledsoe of Spokane, Mrs. Alice Carlson of South Bend, Wash., and Mrs. Irma Twitchell of Cashmer, Wash. The remains are being sent to Spokane for services, with interment in Endicott, Wash. Memorials are being sent to the Patterson Masonic Temple Association. Schneider Betty 620101 p1 Dies As A Result Of Auto Accident; Mrs. Betty Schneider, who was a bookkeeper for a Newman firm operating a packing shed, died Wednesday as a result of injuries she sustained when her auto struck a tree on Highway 33, just south of Crows Landing. Doctors had worked since her unconscious body was discovered by officers of the California Highway Patrol to save her life but to no avail. Her injuries included a fractured skull, fracture of her right leg, chest and rib injuries and multiple lacerations. Her body will be sent to Bakersfield which was her home. Scoles Frank 620802 p1 Former Resident Succumbs; Frank Scoles, 83, a resident of the Patterson area for 24 years, died Sunday evening in a San Leandro hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Scoles was a native of Iowa. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Wanda Lytle of Patterson and Mrs. Leta McLaughlin of Castro Valley; five sons, Lynn Scoles of Patterson, Dale and Arnold of San Leandro, Harold of Hayward and William, who is serving with the United States Army in Germany. He is also survived by two stepdaughters, Mrs. Wilma Manetti of Patterson and Mrs. Dorene Tersigni of Merced; three stepsons, Robert, Herbert and Don English of Patterson; two sisters, Mrs. Lenora Wright of Ft. Scott, Kansas and Mrs. Della Bennett of Shenandoah, Iowa, a brother Albert Scoles, of Riverton, Iowa; 18 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Services were held at Evans Funeral Chapel yesterday and Reverend Franklin Satterberg of the Evangelical Covenant Church officiated. Interment was at the Del Puerto Cemetery. Souza Lorraine J 620719 p8 Lorraine Souza, 35, Deceased; Lorraine JoAnne Souza, 35, of Crows Landing died Wednesday morning in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. The deceased came from Cressy, California but lived in the Crows Landing, Newman and Patterson area almost all her life. She is survived by her husband, George, owner of the Souza Market in Crows Landing and her three daughters, Charlene, Charlotte and Cheryl Anne, all of Crows Landing. She also leaves a sister Mrs. Rosie Rodrigues of Turlock and a brother, Manuel Chaves of Newman. Rosary Services will be recited in the Davis-Hansen Chapel in Newman Thursday and Friday evening. The S.P.R.S.I. of Crows Landing will also recite a Rosary Thursday and Friday evenings. Mrs. Souza was a member of the Y.L.I. and S.P.R.S.I. of Crows Landing. Funeral services will be held in the Davis-Hansen Chapel in Newman on Saturday, July 21 at 9 a.m., thence to a 10 a.m. Mass in the Crows Landing Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman. Sperry Merton 620816 p1 Patterson Man A Suicide; A Patterson man was found dead in Azevedo's Labor Camp on East Las Palmas Avenue early this week, apparently a suicide victim. Merton Sperry, 54, was found hanging by a rope attached to the knob of a kitchen door, then draped over the door. He had stood on a small tool box. A native of Mount Oso Canyon, just west of Patterson, Mr. Sperry had lived in this area all his life. He was seen last by his former wife, Venona and his daughter-in- law on Friday when they reportedly stopped to see him and have some papers signed. They said he seemed in good spirits at the time. A note was found on the kitchen table which read, "I leave all my cash assets and anything I own to Venona Sperry." Besides his former wife, Mr. Sperry leaves two sons, Merton and Richard Melvin Sperry of Patterson. In addition he is survived by five grandchildren and 11 brothers and sisters. His body was taken to Evans Funeral Chapel and grave side services were held yesterday at the Del Puerto Cemetery. Storch Peter 620208 p1 Peter Storch, 80, Succumbs; Peter Storch, 80, of North 1st Street, Patterson, passed away in a Modesto Hospital Saturday, February 3. Mr. Storch, who had been a building contractor, came to California from Minnesota in 1920. He is survived by his wife, Ida B. Storch, his sons, Gustave Storch of Patterson, Herman H. Storch of Madera,; and Peter F. Storch of Sacramento. He also leaves three daughters, Mrs. Irene Terry of Watsonville; Mrs. Ada Daily of Crows Landing, and Mrs. Evelyn Soden of Patterson. He was preceded in death by two sons, Harold and Robert. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Services were held in Shannon and Carmody Funeral Chapel in Modesto. She leaves a daughters, Mrs. Blanche Penero, of Stockton; two sons, Arthur Gordon of Sacramento, and Robert Gordon of Stockton; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mamie Farthing and Mrs. Nettie Atkins, of Stockton. Waters, Early Resident Succumbs Myron E. Waters, 85, a former resident of Patterson passed away in Vallejo, California this week after a brief illness. Mr. Waters came to Patterson in 1918 as a farmer and some time after turned to dairy farming. He was later hired by the Standard Oil Company when they had a pumping station in Patterson. He was transferred to Richmond, California in 1935 He entered the rug cleaning business in Vallejo in 1936 and ran his business until his retirement in 1955. He and his family were members of the Presbyterian Church in Patterson. He is survived by his wife Jessie M. and his son Burton H. Waters of Downey, California. He also leaves a grand daughter Carol Perumean and a great grandchild Mark Perumean, both of Garden Grove. Graveside services were held at Del Puerto Cemetery yesterday and Reverend Gray Alter presided. Zacharias; Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Evans Chapel for Wilbur W. Zacharias. Mr. Zacharias died Tuesday evening in Del Puerto hospital following a short illness. He was 78. Rev. Albert Foster will officiate at the services. Wilbur Zacharias was a native of the West Side. He was a rancher and a member of the Charles Zacharias Company. He was one of the organizing directors of the old Commercial Bank in 1920 and served as a director until the bank was sold to American Trust Company in 1955. He served as president of the board of directors of the bank from l947 to 1955. Mr. Zacharias retired in 1959 as Patterson chairman of the American Red Cross after serving in the position for 12 years. He is survived by two brothers, Ralph and Chester, both of Patterson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive, in 1955. Burial will be in Del Puerto Cemetery. Zucher Sam E 620906 p1 Sam Zucher Dead; Funeral arrangements were still pending for Sam Ernest Zucher, 80, found dead Monday evening at his cabin in the Azevedo Camp on East Las Palmas. No relatives have been located so far. Mr. Zucher has been living in or near Patterson for about 30 years. The body is at the Evans Funeral Chapel.
