Albertoni was a native of Switzerland who had lived in California 61 years and in Patterson 44 years. He is a retired rancher. Alter Alice M 631010 p1 Services Held For Mrs. Gray Alter; Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Federated Church for Alice Margaret Alter, 74, who died Saturday evening in a Modesto hospital following a long illness. The Rev. A. W. Foster officiated at the services and was assisted by Rev. Edwin Solie of Turlock and Rev. Franklin Satterberg of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Interment was in Del Puerto Cemetery. Mrs. Alter was a native of Chile and had lived in Patterson the past 60 years. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Gray Alter; and two sons, George of Pennsylvania, and Stanley of San Pablo, California. Alves Elias F 631017 p1 Funeral Friday For Elias Alves; Rosary will be said today, Thursday, at the Davis-Hansen Funeral Chapel in Newman for Elias Ferreira Alves, 79, of Newman. Alves died Tuesday, October 15 in a local hospital. He was a native of the Azores Islands and resided on the West Side 53 years. The funeral procession will leave the Chapel at 9:30 am. Friday for Saint Joachim s Catholic Church where Mass will be said at 10 am. by Father Manuel P. Costa. Interment will be in Hills Ferry Cemetery. Elias F. Burial will be in the Turlock cemetery. Carlson died Tuesday, March 19, at the Willows Nursing Home in Creas following a long illness. He was a native of Sweden and came to Patterson in 1919 from Ledi. He was a retired farmer. Coito Josephine 630523 p3 Mrs. Coito Dies, Resident Here Since 1920; Requiem mass was held last Saturday morning a Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Mrs. Josephine Coito, 77, who died last Thursday at the Del Puerto Hospital after a short illness. Mrs. Coito had lived in Patterson since 1920, coming to this area from Petaluma, Sonoma County. She was a member of UPPEC and SPRSI. Her husband Antone preceded her in death. Cox, 84, Dies; Funeral services were held Monday for William W. Cox, 84, of Westley, who died last Thursday in a Modesto rest home. Services were conducted by the Rev. Albert W. Foster in the Modesto Mortuary. Interment was in the Modesto cemetery. W. W. Cox was a native of Grayson and a member of a pioneer ranching family which has ranched in Stanislaus more than 100 years. He was the past president and member of the board of the West Stanislaus Irrigation District from the time it was founded in 1920 until 1962 when he resigned due to poor health. He was president and founder of the Commercial Bank of Patterson and was also a director of the Modesto Bank and Trust Company. He was a past president and member of the Patterson Union High School District board of trustees serving 18 years. Mr. Cox was a past president and member of the executive board of the Yosemite Area council of Boy Scouts of America and an elder in the Patterson Federated Church. He was a member of the Patterson Rotary club, a past master of Patterson Lodge No. 488, FAM; and past patron of Patterson Chapter No 418 Order of Easter Star. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lois Stanley Cox of Westley twin sons, Stewart and Stanley Cox of Westley; two daughters, Rebecca Heckendorf of Modesto and Margaret Funk of Lafayette, Contra Costa County; a sister, Mabel Cox of Westley; eight grandchildren, five nieces and one nephew. Forgette died Feb. 1 in a Modesto hospital. He is a veteran of World War II. He leaves no known survivors. He is survived by his wife, Delia of Modesto; four sons, David of Tamoa, Florida; Wesley of Dallas, Texas; Jason of Redwood Estates and Rudolph of Fresno; four daughters, Mrs. Rosie Rhodes and Mrs. Mayme Black both of Ceres, Mrs. Mary Bingham of Modesto and Mrs. Leona Thompson of Peoria, Arizona; three bothers, Tom of Stockton, Horace of Modesto and Bennie of Nobleville, Indiana; one sister Mrs. Virgie Stone of Modesto; 25 grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren. Guerrero Thomas 631121 p9 Farm Worker in Fatal Accident; Funeral services will be held in Texas for a farm worker who was crushed to death by a tractor Wednesday, Nov. 13, afternoon. The man, Thomas Guerrero, 47, was operating a tractor on the M. C. Thorkelson & Company ranch on Magnolia Avenue. His 18 year old son, who with his sister saw the fatal accident occur, said a trailer had been loaded with cauliflower and his father pulled it away. When the tractor reached the ditch, the front end reared and Guerrero slipped down where his head was caught between the tractor seat and the trailer. Guerrero was pronounced dead on arrival at Del Puerto hospital. Evans Funeral Chapel handled the local arrangements. Gustafson a rancher, was a native of Patterson. He was a member of the board of directors of the Patterson Water District, and a resident of the Soil Conservation District in Patterson. He was recently awarded an Honorary Life Membership in the Future Farmers of America. He is survived by his wife, Anna; a son, Charles; and a daughter, Diane, all of Patterson. He is also survived by five sisters, Mrs. Hilma Agadoni and Alice Gustafson, both of Patterson; Mrs. Edna Wilkins of San Jose; Mrs. Dora Hauert of Oakland; and Mrs. Doris Kurrels of San Lorenzo. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters who died in infancy. Interment was also in Castro Valley. Hiatt David I 630418 p1 David I. Hiatt Services Held; Funeral services were held for David I. Hiatt, 78, who died suddenly Saturday afternoon. His wife, Mrs. Alice Hiatt. said he stood up to go into another room and fell, striking his head on the floor. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Del Puerto hospital. Services were held in Evans Funeral Chapel with Mrs. Gladys Hunt of the Christian Science Society officiating. The body was taken to Lakewood Memorial Park for cremation. He is survived by his wife, Alice of Patterson; four sons, Donald, Earl, and Robert of Patterson, and Arthur of Modesto; two daughters, Evelyn Barker of Ohio and Katherine Howard of Modesto. Hibbard Minnie E 630207 p3 Funeral Services for Long-Time Patterson Resident; Funeral services were held Wednesday for Mrs. Minnie Elizabeth Hibbard who died Feb. 2 in a Modesto hospital. Pastor Albert W. Foster officiated at the services in Evans Chapel. Burial was in Del Puerto Cemetery. Mrs. Hibbard, a native of Delano, California, would have been 75 on March 7th. She came to Patterson in 1912 with her husband, Earl, a builder and contractor. Her husband preceded her in death in 1956. Mrs. Hibbard was a charter member of the Colony Club which was later known as the Womens' Improvement Club until it was disbanded. She was a member and past president of the Ladies Aid, now known as the Womens' United Society. Before the war, Mrs. Hibbard was in charge of draft registration here. Mrs. Hibbard has been in a Modesto hospital for the past one and a half years. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Betty Glynn of 212 N. 5th in Patterson.. Hood Eva 630307 p1 Eva Hood, Pioneer, Dies Sunday; An early pioneer of the Patterson community, Mrs. Hood, was buried Wednesday afternoon at the Cemetery in Newman. Mrs. Hood very active in later life in the Federated Church here, was a native of Nebraska. She came to Patterson in 1911. For many years the local woman was a representative of the Salvation Army. She was in ill health from some time. Mrs. Hood is survived by one daughter, Eileen Noble of Alynn, Washington. Services were held Wednesday at the Federated Church with Rev. Albert W. Foster officiating. James Mark E 630815 p8 3-Year-Old Killed Sunday; Three year old Mark Edward James, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond James of Modesto, was killed Sunday on Del Puerto Canyon road seven miles west of Patterson. The boy was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by his uncle, Orval B Hampton, also of Modesto. Highway patrol officials said Hampton was on the wrong side of the road in a curve and ran into an automobile head-on. The driver of the auto, Terry W. Anson of Gustine, had just purchased his car the day before. The three-year-old was thrown onto the hood of the car and then onto the road. Hampton was treated at the Del Puerto hospital and transferred to Modesto City hospital. Johnson Ida V 630711 p6 Services for Mother of Former Resident; Funeral services were held July 1 for Ida Virginia Johnson, 83, of Napa. Mrs. Johnson died June 28. The services were held at the Richard Pierce Mortuary in Napa with inurement at the Chapel of Chimes in Oakland. Mrs. Johnson was the mother of Robert Johnson, formerly of Patterson and now residing in Rosesvi1le. Mrs. Larson was a native of Sweden and had lived in Patterson for 40 years. Leamons Joseph R 630530 p9 Services Held for 18 Month Old Boy Saturday; Services were held Saturday in Evans Funeral Chapel for Joseph Ray Leamons, 18 months, who died last Thursday at the home of his parents in Patterson. Joseph was born in Patterson and is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Ray Leamons; two brothers, John and David, grandparents, Mrs. Francis Ball and Mr. and Mrs. Odell Jones, all of Patterson. McDonald James R 631024 p1 Early Area Resident Dies: James R McDonald; Word was received this week of the death of James R McDonald of Vacaville, California. McDonald was born August 13, 1880 in Grayson, the son of James R and Emma J. McDonald. He attended Grayson school and Mt. Tamilpias Military Academy. He worked for his father in the Grayson store and ran the store for two years following his father s death. He was in business in Portland, Oregon, for a few years and in 1908 returned to San Francisco and entered the firm of L. D. Mc Lean Company, grocers. He was president of the firm from 1930 to 1958. This company absorbed the Goldberg Bowent Company in 1942 becoming the McLean Goldberg Bowent Company. McDonald suffered a stroke in 1958 and retired to his ranch in Vacaville where he lived until his death October 16th. Mrs. Peterson died at her home on Orange avenue where she had lived since coming to Patterson in 1911. It was the first house constructed on Orange avenue. Puyo Ysidro 630321 p1 Ysidro Puyo Services Friday; Services will be held Friday with a private Mass at Sacred Heart Church for Ysidro Puyo, 65, whose body was recovered from the Delta-Mendota canal Tuesday. Interment will be in St Mary's Cemetery in Patterson Puyo had been missing since March 11 when his car was found parked near the canal. His body was found 111/2 miles from where the car was parked. Sheriff's deputies and ditch riders had been watching the canal since the time he was reported missing. An autopsy ordered by the cornered indicated a heart attack as the cause of death. Puyo was a native of Fargo, Spain, and had lived in the Patterson-Westley area since 1935. He is survived by his widow, Juanita, and one daughter, Mrs. Ellen Farinha of Patterson. Interment was in Del Puerto cemetery. Sorenson was born March 5, 1882 in Norway. He came to America at the age of 20 and settled in Toronto, South Dakota. In 1913 he moved to California where he was a shopkeeper for 20 years in Northridge and later employed in the aircraft industry in Van Nuys. He has resided in Patterson for the past 12 years. He is survived by his widow, Sigrid; one daughter, Mrs. Agnes Mills of Placerville, and one grand-daughter. Ventuleth, 70, who died early Tuesday evening. Ventuleth had played golf Tuesday morning and was sitting in his yard reading the paper when he died suddenly about 6 pm. The Masonic services will be conducted in Evans Funeral Chapel by Richard Ayres. Interment will be in Del Puerto cemetery. Ventuleth was a native of Golden, Colorado. He had lived in Gilroy and moved to Patterson in 1919. He formerly managed the Eagle Drug store. He and his wife, Edwina, retired from the drug store in February, 1962. He was a charter member and past president of the Patterson Rotary club and a veteran of WWI. He was an active member of the Patterson Golf and Country Club and had twice been master of the Masonic lodge in Patterson. He was a member of the Ashmes Shrine temple in Oakland and a member of the Scottish Rites Bodies of San Jose. He was a member of the Patterson-Westley Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion.
