Alvernaz, 75, who died Tuesday in a local hospital. The rosary will be recited tonight (Thur's) at 8pm in the Davis Hanson Funeral Chapel in Newman. Father Thomas Stanton, C. M., will officiate at the services. Interment at the Crows Landing Cemetery. Alvernaz was a retired dairyman who had lived in the Crows Landing community 56 years. He was a native of the Azores. He was a member of I.D.E.S. No. 83 of Crows Landing. He is survived by his wife, Mary Leal Alvernaz of Crows Landing; four sons, Joe of Newman, Frank, Tony, and Wilburn of Crows Landing; one daughter, Mrs. Florence Francis of Patterson; one step-daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Paige of Massachusetts; two sister, Mrs. Anna Alvernaz of Livingston and Mrs. Louisa Silveira of the Azores; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Barbe Frank 640423 p1 Funeral Service; Funeral services were conducted last Monday for Frank Barbe, 66, who died last week in a local hospital following a short illness. The services were conducted at the Howard H. Wyant Funeral chapel in Sunnyvale with interment in Calvary Cemetery in San Jose. Barbe had lived in the Patterson area 25 years and was a dairyman. He was a native of San Jose. Barrera Manuel Sr 640709 p1 Services Tuesday for Weekend Accident Victim; Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3 pm at Sacred Heart Church for Manuel Barrera Sr., 61, of Walnut Avenue. Barrera was killed Sunday when he was struck by a car near the entrance to the Crows Landing Naval Base at Marshall Road. The car was driven by Mrs. Marlyss Basham of El Sobrante. She told police she was unable to avoid hitting Barrera when he walked into her traffic lane about 2 am. The windshield on her car was shattered but neither she, her husband, nor their three children were injured. Barrera had been working for Tony Bravo. He is survived by one daughter, Elmira Hernandez of Puente; one son, Manuel Barrera Jr. of Los Angeles; and two sisters, Celia Placencia of Sacramento and Elisa Cook of Arizona. Interment was in the Patterson District Cemetery with Evans Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements. Basalduo Raymond A 640507 p1 Funeral Services Held For Eight Year Old; A requiem mass was held in Sacred Heart Catholic Church Saturday for Raymond Anthony Basalduo, 8, who died Tuesday, April 28, in a Modesto hospital. Rosary was recited Friday evening in Evans Funeral chapel. Interment was in the Patterson District Cemetery. Raymond was born in Mesa, Arizona, and was a second grader at the Northmead Elementary school. He was taken to the hospital Saturday. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Connie Solarez; one brother, Edward Solarez; and two sisters, Teresa and Sylvia Solarez, all of Patterson. Black was a native of Missouri and had been living in Patterson four months with a daughter, Mrs. M. E. Moriarty. Previously he had lived in Madeira. He was a retired employee of the county road department. Busengdal Carl P 640625 p1 Services Held Tuesday for Carl Busengdal; Funeral services were held Tuesday at Evans Funeral Chapel for Carl P. Busengdal, 79, who died Monday morning in a local hospital following an extended illness. Rev. Arthur M. Olson and Rev. E, B. Kluver, both of Our Saviour s Lutheran Church, officiated. Interment was in the Patterson District Cemetery. Busengdal was a former Chief of Police in Patterson. In 1947 he quit as police chief in order to become sexton of the Patterson District Cemetery continuing in the position until his death. He was a native of Norway and had Lived in Patterson since 1915. He was a member of Garborg Lodge 156, Sons of Norway. He is survived by his wife Rose of Patterson; four daughters, Mrs. Marie Olson of Patterson, Mrs. Aileen Stevens of Los Altos; Mrs. Tora Hove of Norway and Mrs. Karen Marie Jasvold of Norway; two brothers, Christian and Alfred Busengdal, both of Norway; five grandchildren; and two stepdaughters, Mrs. Eleanor Wasson of Modesto and Mrs. Arlene Liff of New York city. Callizo was a native of Spain and had lived here 27 years. He was a retired rancher and is survived by one sister in Spain. He was a member of the Modesto Eagles Aerie. Jan. 8-- John Cambra. a resident of this area for 40 years, passed away early Monday morning in his home at 5th and G Streets after a brief illness. Rosary was recited Wednesday evening in the Davis-Hansen Funeral Chapel at Newman. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, leaving the chapel at 9 o clock for the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church here where the Requiem Mass will be said by Father H. J. Beutler beginning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in Hills Ferry Cemetery. A native of Madeira, Portugal, he was 73 years old and had come directly to this area where he was employed as a farm laborer and gardener. He had long been a member of the UPEC Council, No. 108, of Crows Landing. He is survived by two sisters, Rosa Cambra of Taunton, Massachusetts, and Mrs. Alfredo Cambra of Madeira, Portugal. Carson Andrew J 640806 p1 Andrew Carson Services Held; Funeral services were held Monday at the Allen Mortuary in Turlock for Andrew J. Carson, 61, of Westley. The Rev. Robert Hedstrom of Modesto officiated and interment was in Turlock Memorial Park. Carson had been a tractor driver who lived on the Stark Ranch. His body was found by a laundry man. Death apparently was due to natural causes. Carson was a native of Castroville and moved to the Denair area in 1920. He had lived in Westley since 1944. He is survived by his brother, Ed Carson of Newman and five sisters, Susan Johnson, Helen Pozzy, and Cary Hedstrom, all of Turlock, Orpha Copeland of Hilmar, and Olive Hutchings of San Jose. Carter Samuel 641231 p1 Final Rites For Samuel Carter; Private funeral services were conducted last Thursday for Samuel Carter, 64, of Patterson. Carter is a former furniture store operator. Cervantes Services Held; Funeral Services were conducted at Evans Funeral Chapel last Friday for Silvestre Cervantes, 58, who died September 2 in a Modesto hospital following a long illness. Cheatham Maude E 641008 p1 Mrs. Cheatham Dead Sunday; Mrs. Maude Esther Cheatham, 84, of Patterson died Sunday in a Ceres rest home following a lengthy illness. She was a native of Tennessee and is survived by one son, Cullon Cheatham of Patterson. Burial will be from the Evans funeral Chapel at 10am, Friday. Mrs. Cheatham is also survived by nine grandchildren and 20 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by another son. Cochetoff Alexander I 640514 p1 Final Riles Held For Alex Cochetoff; Masonic funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Evans Chapel for Alexander I Cochetoff, 70, who died early Friday morning following an extended illness. Internment was in Patterson District Cemetery. Cochetoff was a native of Siberia and came to the United States in 1951. He came to Patterson in 1955 and became a naturalized citizen in 1960. He served in the Imperial Russian Army during World War I and spent much of his life in China as a civil engineer. Prior to his death he managed the Welty Hotel in Patterson. He is survived by his wife, Nina, of Patterson. He was a member of the Patterson Masonic Lodge F & AM 488 and of Chapter 417 Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of the Scottish Rites Bodies of Stockton and the Ashmes Shire Temple in Oakland. Cochetoff was also a member of Garborg Lodge 58, Sons of Norway. His wife has requested that any remembrances be sent to the Stanislaus County Branch of the American Cancer Society. She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth M. Correia of Crows Landing and Mrs. Manuel Cardoza of Hollister; one son, Harold Correia of Crows Landing; two sisters, Mrs. Francis Vargas of Patterson and Mrs. Louisa Faria of the Azores; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Crows Landing UPPEC. Daily Raymond G 640618 p1 Ray Daily Services Today; Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, at 10 am in Evans Funeral Chapel for Raymond G. Daily, 48, who died Sunday night in the county hospital following a Saturday auto accident. Interment will be in the Patterson District Cemetery. Daily s car crashed into a power pole on Orange Avenue Saturday. He was treated at the Del Puerto hospital and transferred. He was a veteran of World War II. Daily is survived by one daughter, Noreen Daily of Patterson; a brother, Lewis Daily of Crows Landing; and three sisters, Frances Daily, Mrs. May McGill, and Mrs. Stella Anderson, all of Patterson. The auto fatality was the first involving a local resident since late in 1962. Ironically the day before the accident a warrant had bent issued in Patterson Judicial District Court, charging Daily with driving with a suspended driver s license. It stemmed from a May 9 accident in which an auto driven by Daily was involved. In early April similar charges had been brought against him. The license had originally been suspended because of alleged ‘blackouts' by the local man. David M M 640402 p1 M. M. David Services Today in San Francisco; Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today for M. M. David, 77, a former resident of Patterson and Crows Landing. The services will be held at the N. Gray and Co. Funeral Chapel in San Francisco. David died Monday in a San Francisco hospital following a long illness. He was employed by Lyons Warehouse in Patterson prior to his retirement and moving to San Francisco to make his home. He is survived by his wife, Marie; one sister, Mrs. Maude Tower of Modesto; and a niece, Mrs. Elizabeth Nunes of Newman. Ellery, a native of California who had been a Westley rancher fo 28 years, had suffered from arthritis for several years. He was found about 8 p.m. Monday evening by a neighbor, Sam Thompson, with a fatal, apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; one son, Henry S. Ellery of Westley; one daughter, Margaret, a student at Fresno State College; his father, Henry Edward Ellery of Placervile; two sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Nevin of Placervile, and Mrs. Alys Phreaner of San Diego; and two grandchildren. The baby died last Thursday morning shortly after birth. Gettling Willie 64 0903 p1 Willie Gettling Services Held; Funeral services were held Tuesday for Willie Gettling, 41, of Grayson in the Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel in Modesto. Interment was in the Patterson District Cemetery. Gettling was pronounced dead-on-arrival last Thursday at the Stanislaus County Hospital after his car went out of control on River Road near Hamilton road and struck an almond tree. The highway patrol estimated the speed of his car at nearly 100 miles per hour. Gettling was a native of Louisiana. He is survived by his wife, Rosie Lee, his mother, Mrs. Ella Mae Weather Gettling of New York City; and a brother, Howard, also of New York. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Griewee who was employed in the Patterson area and killed in an automobile accident in 1947. Haile was a native of Kansas and came to the Turlock area in 1922. He attended school in Denair and moved to Patterson in 1958. Their car was struck by The Owl, northbound Southern Pacific passenger train at a blind crossing near the packing shed in Westley. The vehicle was carried 1800 feet down the track by the train. The accident occurred about 7:40 a.m. The Wooleys permanent home was in Eloy, Arizona. They came to Westley from Willows, California, and were living at the Searl Manor in Patterson. They are survived by two sons, Capt James W. Wooley of Hamilton Air Force Base and Eugene R. Wooley, aboard the USS Edison; and three daughters, Mrs. Frances Wright of Porterville, Mrs. Rachael Lankford of Arkansas, and Mrs. Betty Walters of Arizona.
