Maxwell Family Plot The burial ground called Warneville Cemetery is located about two miles from Cooperstown at Willms and Warnerville Roads. This was across from the Dry Creek School. It is stated that the settlement at Warnerville came into existence as a station for the Sierra Railroad. Neither the community nor the graveyard are still active. Tim Haidlen, Oakdale Historian, stated that there are five graves of the Maxwell and Montgomery families with death dates ranging from 1869 to 1899. All Markers have been destroyed or removed. Two have been found, one in a canal and one in stockton in San Joaquin County. These markers are in the possession of Tim Haidlen. On March 21, 1932, Mrs Scott Rountree copied information from the stones for use in a Vital Records Publication of the DAR. She was able to locate four grave markers and to extract the data. In 1960, the Thomas Downey History Club read this 'family plot' and were able to read parts of four markers. By 1991 when Alvera Puls read the graveyard for the GSSC there were no markers to read. She says, "This evidently was the Maxwell family plot. All the original stones are gone and only the bottom of two are left with no writing whatsoever." A square of concrete about two feet high supports a bronze plaque containing family information. MAXWELL, Thomas b. January 11, 1812 d.
