Vonnie peacefully passed to her next life on June 25, 2004, from complications due to Multiple Sclerosis, surrounded by her family and close friend, Sue Kelly. Vonnie was born on December 27, 1949, here in Bakersfield to Martin and June Ansolabehere. She attended Beardsley School and North High School graduating in 1968. Before getting ill, she traveled to Europe with friends and until her illness would babysit for any of her friends or family when asked. She always had a wonderful relationship with children. She worked as a bookkeeper at various jobs until she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in approximately 1988. Vonnie was a strong, independent person, who was grounded in her faith. She became bedridden from 1990 until her death. In 1993 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which had invaded her lymph nodes. Nothwithstanding the fact that the doctor gave her six months to live, Vonnie said when she was diagnosed with cancer she couldnt deal with both so she asked God to handle the cancer and she would deal with the M.S. As it turned out, Vonnie was a cancer survivor for eleven years. The doctors would tell Vonnie how surprised they were by her survival of both cancer and M.S. She would respond that God was the one who helped her with both. During approximately the last thirteen to fourteen years of her life, Vonnie received caregiving support from her sister, Junemarie, who, after work, would go to Vonnies and help with her until bedtime. It was because of Gods help, her strong faith, and help from her sister that Vonnie had an extended life and saw her niece and nephew grow to teenagers. Several months ago, Vonnie experienced passing to the next life. Although that life wasnt then meant to be, she actually saw what was to come and she looked forward to it. We have wonderful memories of good family times and Vonnie will truly be missed until we see her again. Just prior to Vonnies death, her friend, Sue, told her that even though they were of different faiths that Vonnie taught her more about faith than a whole church full of people. Vonnie was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; many aunts and uncles; cousin, Louise Unamuno; and her close friend, Julie McCarthy. She is survived by sisters, Beatrice and Junemarie; her brother, Martin and his wife, Lisa; niece, Elizabeth (Beth) and nephew, Martin; and her godchild, Stephanie Ansolabehere. She is also survived by close friends, Sue Kelly and Tom Yaussy. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or a charity of your choice.
