Appeal Democrat Tuesday, June 24, 2003 Dorothy D Boom, 101, of Wheatland died June 20, 2003 at The Fountains in Yuba City. Born in Wheatland, she was a lifelong Yuba-Sutter resident. She was retired after working as a teacher for 25 years, teaching 20 of those years at Wheatland Elementary School. Her memberships included Grace Episcopal Church in Wheatland, where she was an organist for more than 25 years and a past president of its guild; Menzelah Temple, Daughters of the Nile, and past president of the Marysville Nile sewing Club, Wheatland Wednesday Club, state and county Republican Central Committee and the Yuba County Historical Commission during the bicentennial where she was honored as Patriot of the Month. She was an 80 -year member of Wheatland Chapter No. 48, Order of the Eastern Star; and had been a past matron, past president deputy grand matron and past matron of Emera Association. In addition, she was an honorary life member of the California Parents and Teachers Association and past president of the Wheatland PTA. Also, she was a past president of Camp Far West Parlor No. 218, Nave Daughters of the golden West; the Yuba County Home Department; and the Wheatland Republican Women's Federation. Survivors include two sons, Donald A. Boom of Wheatland and Glenn L. Boom of Montrose, Ala; eight grandchildren' 11 great grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was precede in death by her husband, Leonard Boom; and three sisters, Leona Blackford, Mildred Phillips and Eleanor Couk. Donations may be made to Wheatland Pioneer Hall or to a favorite charity. Services: A graveside memorial service is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Wheatland Cemetery. The Rev. Sharon Snyder of Grace Episcopal Church and Wheatland Chapter No. 48, OES, will officiate. A reception will follow at Wheatland Pioneer Hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel and Crematory.
