Appeal Democrat 04-29-1980 First YC Police Chief Dies at 89 Yuba City's first police chief and a former city councilman, Emmet L. McCune, 89, died yesterday in Rideout Hospital. The Sutter County native was a lifetime area resident and was the son of early day Sutter County residents Philip and Mary McCune. The World War I veteran served as Yuba City's police chief from 1927 until 1943. He then became constable and held that post for 32 years until retirement in 1959. He also served on the city council from 1962 until 1966. His wife, Gertrude died in 1933. He was a member of the Veterans of World War I and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2563 of Yuba City and a former member of the California Peace Officers Association and a founder member of the Northern California chapter of the peace officer organization. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lee Jarosh of Yuba City. Funeral services are scheduled at 1 pm Thursday in Ullrey Memorial Chapel with Rev. Joseph Bishop of St. Isidore's Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Sutter Cemetery.
