Appeal Democrat December 19, 1992 pg A-11 Clarence Summy Memorial services for Clarence Summy, 83, a lifelong resident of Sutter County are scheduled for 2 pm Tuesday at Calvary temple, 2620 Colusa Highway., Yuba City. Summy died Dec 18, 1992, in Fremont Hospital after a short illness. Summy, whose grandfather, Leonidias, settled in the Sutter Buttes in 1852, was born in Meridian on Jan 17, 1910. He was a retired Sutter County educator and farmer. After retiring from the public school system, he was a founder and member of Faith Christian Schools in Yuba City. The school started in 1975 with an enrollment of 40 students in grades K-4. Today, the enrollment of K through 12 is 350. Summy's emphasis at Faith Christian was on developing strong athletic and academic programs, to promote student self-esteem. His final goal was to build a gymnasium at the school, which is scheduled for completion in January. He's a graduate of Sutter High School (class of '29), Healds Business College and San Jose State College, where he received his teaching credential in 1934. His first position was at Shafter. Summy was principal of Central Gaither in Sutter County in the late 30's and farmed in the Oswald area. In 1944, he became principal/superintendent of Clarksburg Union School District, where he served 10 years. In 1955 he returned to Yuba City as principal of Yuba City Unified School District. Survivors include his wife, Martha Summy of Yuba City; a sister, Shirley Curtis of Yuba City; a brother, Charles Summy of Corvallis, Oregon; four daughters, Sandra Fenocchio of Davis, Sheila Messick, Sharon Howard and Linda Porter all of Yuba City; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Faith Christian School Gymnasium Building Fund, c/o Jeff Christensen, 3205 Colusa Hwy., Yuba City.
