Nanney Sincerely Regretted by Large Circle of Friends – Funeral This Morning Mrs. Ann Eliza, wife of Abner S. Nanney, died at her home in Lanes Valley about 10 o’clock on Wednesday night after an illness of about 15 hours. She arose early that morning and begun her household duties as usual at her mountain home in Tyler Meadows, a mile beyond Morgan Springs. There were others in the house, and she remarked to them that she had a peculiar feeling about the head, with pains in the head and on the side of her face. Nothing much was thought of the matter until she suddenly fell unconscious to the floor, and then the alarm was felt. A rig was quickly gotten ready and she was taken to her old home in Lanes Valley, the party reaching there about sundown, and after being placed in bed she still remained unconscious until after 10 o’clock, when the spirit of life left her body. Dr. Horsley of Manton was called to attend her, but when he reached there his patient was dead. Under the law Coroner Lennon was required to hold an inquest, which he did on Thursday morning, the jury returning a verdict of apoplexy. Mrs. Nanney has lived nearly all her life in this State, and was one of the oldest residents of the Paynes Creek section, where she was highly esteemed for her unusually splendid virtues. She leaves a husband and four children, all prominent in the affairs of this county. They are Mrs. Richard L. Woodward, Mrs. Frank P. Childs, Mrs. B.F. McKenzie, and Abner C. Nanney. Coroner Lennon brought the body to town on Thursday, and the funeral will take place in this city Friday at 10 a.m. from the Baptist Church. The services will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.H. Hargreaves, assisted by Rev. E.R. Clarkson, pastor of the Christian Church. Mrs. Nanney was a woman of exceptional abilities, and there was none that knew her but had the highest regard for her friendship and esteem. She loved her home and made it one of the happiest in the county, and was fortunate in possessing a knowledge of affairs in general which made her an exceptionally brilliant woman. She loved the bright side of life, and many times has been the principal factor enjoyed by her friends and those who were nearer to her. She was in the prime of life, at an age where her goodness could be appreciated at the best, and her sudden taking off will be a general misfortune to the entire neighborhood of which she was perhaps the most important member. The people of Paynes Creek especially will greatly miss her, and many today who perhaps will hear of her sudden death through the columns of this paper will express their sincere regret at her departure. Mrs. Nanney was born in Springfield, Illinois, and was 53 years old at the time of her death. She was married to Mr. Nanney in California about 35 years ago.
