Balaam, Farmersville Area Rancher, Passes Away” Graveside services were held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday [March 16] for Edward D. Balaam, lifelong Farmersville area rancher, who died Sunday [March 14. Error as other records show he died March 13] in a Tulare hospital. He was 82 years old. He was born in Farmersville, a son of Tulare County pioneers Alfred and Miriam [Marium] Bequette Balaam, who came to this area in 1851. He attended schools in Farmersville and ranched south of town all of his life. He was married to the late Katie May Tetrick Balaam, who died in 1957. Mr. Balaam was a member of the Exeter Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #308 and the Orange Blossom Rebekah Lodge #265 of Exeter. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Veda Long of Susanville; two grandsons, CWO Robert Long Jr., serving in Vietnam, and Miles Long of Susanville; several nieces and nephews, including H. C. Balaam of Exeter. Members of the Exeter Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #308 officiated at the services in the Exeter Cemetery under the direction of the Hadley Chapel, Visalia.
