One of Tulare county’s earliest pioneers, Mrs. Nedora [Medora] Balaam, 81, died in Los Angeles this morning [May 9] following an extended illness. Born in Paris, Lamara county, Texas, in 1849, Nedora Glass came to this county in the early 60’s with her parents. They settled in what is now the Exeter district, where she was married to Ed Balaam, a member of another pioneer family. Mr. and Mrs. Balaam lived in Exeter for many years, where Mr. Balaam was engaged in business. They were also interested in ranching until Mr. Balaam’s death. About 10 years ago, she left Exeter to make her home in Los Angeles, and had been in poor health since that time. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. W. G. Davis of Pismo; two sons, W. J. Balaam of Redondo and Fred Balaam of Morro Bay, and a sister living in Bakersfield. J. M. Hadley left today to return the body to Exeter. Funeral services will be held at 10 o’clock Monday [May 12, 1930] morning in the Exeter Baptist church, of which Mrs. Balaam was a lifelong member. Burial in the Exeter cemetery will follow.” END Additional Comments: Unknown newspaper, May 10, 1930 (Saturday).
