Exeter Sun, December 27, 1951

“Mrs. Louise Balaam, Pioneer Resident, Given Last Honors”
Funeral services were held at the Exeter Hadley chapel yesterday [December 26] 
morning for Mrs. Louise Regina Balaam, one of Exeter’s most respected and 
admired elder residents, who died suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. 
M. NcNees, at the age of 84.
Rev. August Harris and Rev. E. R. Piepenburg conducted the service and Mrs. 
Calva Stuart furnished music.  The Rebekah lodge attended in a group.  Burial 
was in the Exeter cemetery with grandsons serving as casket bearers.
Mrs. Balaam was a native of Pottawatamie county, Kansas, and came to California 
71 years ago with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Baumann.  Her 
father was a pioneer cattleman in the Auckland district.
Mrs. Balaam was a member of the Presbyterian church of Exeter and of the Orange 
Blossom Rebekah lodge.  During her long residence in Exeter, she had made a 
great many friends and was much admired for her industry and kindness.
She is survived by three sons, Herbert C. Balaam of Exeter; Clarence C. Balaam 
of Waukena, and Clyde O. Balaam of Sacramento; three daughters, Mrs. Lula 
French of Richmond, Mrs. Nellie NcNees of Exeter, and Mrs. Villa Parsons of Los 
Angeles; a brother, John Baumann of Orosi; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Harrell of 
Farmersville and Mrs. Dora Green of Watsonville; 14 grandchildren and five 
great grandchildren.” END
