Balaam Member Of Pioneer Family Dies Walter Jerome Balaam, 73, died at his home in Redondo Beach Tuesday night [September 29, 1942] at 11 o’clock folloying [sic] a period of poor health. Born near Farmersville [Tulare County], the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E [dwin] S[wain] Balaam, pioneer people of Tulare county, Mr. Balaam celebrated his 73rd birthday last April 27th. Before moving to Redondo Beach, Balaam was associated with his father and brother, Fred Balaam, in a general merchandise store in Exeter and was employed by the Edison company. Twenty five years ago the family moved to Redondo Beach where he engaged in the real esate [sic] business. He served two terms as city clerk of the each town. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mellie Balaam, and three daughters, Mrs. Tom Phipps of Tulare, Mrs. Mildred Willis of near Lindsay and Mrs. Emma Lucile Seifert of Redondo. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Emma Davis, of Exeter.
