“Vera Glaze Balaam

Private services for Vera LaVeta Glace (Granny) Balaam, 86, who died June 15 of 
injuries received in an automobile accident near her home in Mason Valley, 
Nevada, were held under the direction of the Freitas Funeral Home in Yerington, 
Nevada.

Mrs. Balaam was a former resident of Exeter.  She was born in Jet, Oklahoma, 
August 23, 1904 and came with her parents, Charles and E. Florence Glaze, at 
the age of two.  She married H. Austin Balaam and the couple moved to 
Yerington, Nevada, when they bought the Shehady Ranch in Mason Valley.
She was a school teacher in both California and Nevada, having retired in the 
early 1970s.

The accident occurred when she suffered a seizure while driving her car on 
Tucker Lane, approaching U.S. Highway 95-E near Yerington.  Her car went 
through an intersection and struck a tree stump, injuring her fatally.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna J. Thomas and Dody Newell, both of 
Yerington; a son, Don Balaam of Yerington; a brother, Vic Glaze of Exeter; and 
two sisters, Velma Montgomery of Morro Bay and Vernetta Schultz of Exeter; nine 
grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her 
husband preceded her in death in 1959.

The family asks that anyone wishing to should make donations to a favorite 
charity in her name.” END
