The news of his death will not come as a surprise, for it has been known for several months that his hold on life was frail, and for two or three weeks there had not at any time been any hope on the part of his relatives or the physicians. It was in January that Mr. Broder was taken ill, and in May he went to San Francisco where a surgical operation was performed for the removal of some growth on the liver. For a short time after that there seemed to be a chance for recovery, but the hope proved to have been based on a delusion. He was unmarried and was about fifty years of age. He leaves a mother and two brothers, all of Visalia. "Johnie" Broder was one of Tulare county's best known citizens. He was a deputy under County Clerk Hammond, where he met people from all parts of the county, and prior to that he was engaged extensively in the cattle business. Later he was with the Mt. Whitney Power Co., whose employ he left in order that he might give closer attention to his cattle business. He was well acquainted with Tulare county's mountains, and during the past few years has had much to do with taking tourists in to see the wonders of the Sierras. With Mr. Hopping, the two constituting the Broder-Hopping company, he had a good paying business in the Giant Forest, conveying travelers into the forest, guiding mountain parties to any desired point, furnishing animals and providing in all ways for the accommodation of those going into the high mountains. He was well liked by all with whom he came in contact." END Additional Comments: The Daily Tulare Register (Tulare County, California). September 7, 1908 (Monday). Page 1.
