He was signaling the engine of a freight train in the switch yard, but when he attempted to step out of the way to let the locomotive pass, he found that his foot was securley fastened between the outside rail and the guard rail. The engine struck him before it could be stopped, crushing his right leg and injuring his abdomen so severely that death was the ultimate result. The remains were taken to his home in Visalia, where the interment took place." END [Note that records indicate he was possibly buried in the San Lorenzo Cemetery, Alameda County and not in Visalia.] Additional Comments: The Tuolumne Independent (Sonora, California).
