Morning Oregonian September 23, 1904
Sacremento,Cal.,Sept22- In the case of Charles Padilla,on trail for the murder 
of J.C.McCarthymin September,1902. Augustine Mirani today testified that it 
was he who killed McCarthy,and that Padilla was innocent.Mirandi was charged 
jointly with Padilla,and has been convicted and is under sentence of death.It 
wa sapparent that he was trying to save Padilla from the gallows.Padilla was 
convicted and sentenced to be hanged.
