(1891) FRED MEZGER, a farmer in the northeastern part of Yolo County, was born in Wurttenberg, Germany, March 13, 1837, a son of Fred and Elizabeth (Katz) Mezger, both natives of the same place. In 1859 he came to the United States and lived in New York until 1868, when he came by way of the Isthmus to the Golden State and shortly afterward settled upon 160 acres of land about seven miles northwest of Yolo, where he is now enjoying life as a prosperous agriculturist. In 1865 he married Miss Claus, a native of Wurttenberg and a daughter of John and Barbara (Bayer), and they have nine children: Fred, Frank, Charles, Theodore, Albert, Eugene, Katie, Mary, and Clara.
