Dr. Ranulf P. Beames died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006 in Santa Rosa at age 80.

Dr. Beames was born Aug. 7, 1925 in Oakland. He was a 1943 graduate of 
University High School in Oakland. He served in the U.S. Army during World War 
II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he returned to the San 
Mateo County to study medicine at Stanford University where he graduated in 
1952. He volunteered for the Stanford Alumni Associations, last serving as 
president of the Oakmont Stanford Alumni Association. Dr. Beames practiced 
urology in San Mateo County from 1955 until 1992. He played drums in the 
Doctor's Jazz Band. In 1974 he was president of the San Mateo County Medical 
Society. In that capacity, he created the physician's telephone exchange.

Survivors include Dr. Beames' daughter, Barbara Butterfield and her husband 
Jason of Woodland; his sons, David Beames and his wife Marilyn of San Mateo 
and Richard Beames and his wife Melissa of Hillsborough; and seven 
grandchildren.

The family requests memorials in Dr. Beames' name to be directed to the 
American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1131, Fairfax, Va. 22038-1131.

Services: Celebrations of Dr. Beames' life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, 
Feb. 25 at the Quail Inn, 7035 Oakmont Dr., Santa Rosa and at 2 p.m. 
Wednesday, March 1 at the Peninsula Golf and Country Club, 701 Madera Dr., San 
Mateo. Lafferty and Smith in Santa Rosa is assisting the family with 
arrangements.
