Oct. 26, 1907 - Oct. 1, 2005 Christine H. Blanchard, died at the University Retirement Community Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005 at age 97. Mrs. Blanchard was born Oct. 26, 1907 in New York City. She had been a Davis resident for 54 years. She was educated in private schools in New York, then graduated from Smith College as a history major. She also attended Simmons College, where she earned her master's degree in medical social work. After moving to Davis, she was involved in volunteering with community services. First she was active in the Davis Parent Nursery School, and then she served on the Davis School Board from 1962 to 1974. One of her achievements was starting the day care center for the children of migrant farm workers at Cuidad del Sol, just outside Davis. She was among the founders of The Episcopal Church of St. Martin, was a charter member and first president of the Yolo Family Service Agency, served on the Davis Human Relations Council, was chairwoman of the Yolo County Grand Jury, was a founder the Yolo County chapter of Planned Parenthood, helped create the Economic Opportunity Commission of Davis, and was active in STEAC. Among her citations, she received the Yolo County Bar Association's Liberty Bell award for community service, and she was named Davis Citizen of the Year in 1970. She was also given a lifetime membership in the PTA. She was recently was reelected to the Democratic Central Committee of Yolo County. Survivors include Mrs. Blanchard's daughter, Christine H. Ramm and her husband Edward; her son, Richard C. Blanchard and his wife Hermie; her grandchildren, Michelle C. Blanchard, R. Craig Blanchard, Kelly Mortensen, James Ramm and Travis Bogarda; and her great-grandchildren, Dominic Pittman, Neiko Pittman, Malieya Pittman and Hayden Mortensen. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Richard Blanchard and her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bogard. The family requests memorials in Mrs. Blanchard's name be directed to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, 95617; Yolo Family Services, 455 First St., Woodland, 95695; or STEAC, P.O. Box 1047, Davis, 95617. Services: A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at The Episcopal Church of St. Martin, 640 Hawthorn Lane, Davis. The Neptune Society is assisting the family with arrangements.
