Arthur Neal Burford died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005 at Cottonwood Healthcare 
Center in Woodland at age 70.

Mr. Burford was born Sept. 12, 1935 in Columbus, Texas to Ivory and Mattie 
(Connor) Burford. He had been a Woodland resident for three years. He attended 
San Francisco City College until joining the U.S. Army. After 21 years of 
military service, Mr. Burford retired from the Army and returned to San 
Francisco where he went to work for the San Francisco Municipal Railway. He 
was a member and deacon at the Greater Second Baptist Church in Woodland; and 
also worked as a crossing guard in both San Francisco and Woodland.

Survivors include Mr. Burford's wife, Catherine Burford of Woodland; his 
daughter, Barretta Burford of San Antonio, Texas; his sons, Arthur Burford and 
Quinton Burford, both of Woodland, Adrion Jones of Union City and Anthony 
Burford; seven grandchildren; his aunt, Luevena Connor of Columbus, Texas; and 
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, 
his sisters, Fannye Birdwell and Eliza Sutton; and his brothers, Ivory Burford 
Jr. and James Burford.

The family requests memorials in Mr. Burford's name be directed to the Greater 
Second Baptist Church, 435 Second St., Woodland 95695; or to the charity of 
the donor's choice.

Services: A funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 at Greater Second 
Baptist Church, 435 Second St., Woodland with Pastor Mike Beard officiating. 
Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland is assisting the family with 
arrangements.
