Mrs. Deming was born June 28, 1919 in Solano County. She had been a Yolo County resident for 10 years. She attended Armijo High School. She, along with her former husband "Bud" Freitas, owned and operated the Fairfield Meat Market. Later she was a personal secretary for former Solano County sheriffs, Thomas "Tommy" Joyce and Alan "Al" Cardoza. After retiring, she became a court reporter for 20 years, serving municipal and superior courts in Solano County and other jurisdictions. Upon retiring from this position, she and her husband, George, owned and operated the Pioneer Fruit Stand in Suisun Valley for five years. She belonged to the following clubs and organizations: Democrat State Central Committee, Fairfield-Suisun Wednesday Club president, Solano County board member of the American TB Association, Solano County board member of the American Cancer Society, board member of Fairfield Park and Recreation District, member of Rebekah Lodge and Fairfield's Holy Spirit Catholic Church. In 1961 she ran for and lost the primary election for the California State Assembly. She served on state Democrat party positions and was a delegate at the 1956 and 1960 Democrat Party conventions. Survivors include Mrs. Deming's daughter, Muriel Darleen Freitas of Butte, N.D.; her son, John E. Freitas and his wife Jacqueline A. Segersten of Carmichael; stepdaughter, Patty Sparks of Las Vegas; her grandchildren, John E. Freitas III of Los Angeles, Anne E. Freitas of Sacramento, Kathrin Volochenko of Kief, N.D., Linda W. Bushey of American Canyon, Mathew E. Scally of Woodland; her step-granddaughter, Jennifer Freeworth of Sacramento; her great-grandchildren, Clay and Jacob Bushey and Julie Volson. She was preceded in death by her husband George Deming. The family requests memorials in Mrs. Deming's name be directed to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, 95617. Services: A private memorial service is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30 at the Country Villa Mobile Home Park Club House in Esparto. Kraft Bros.
