Royster A memorial service will be held Saturday for Laura Jean Smotherman Royster, who died Oct. 4, 2002, in Davis. A native of Cathage, Tenn., she was 87. She had been a Davis resident for 38 years, and prior to that had lived in Dixon and Boonville. She was a retired teacher in the Dixon and Boonville unified school districts. A patron of the arts, she enjoyed music, theater and lectures, and also enjoyed traveling throughout the southern United States. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Ferd N. Royster, in 1983. He was the former minister of Dixon United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Jean Ellen Swearingen of Carmichael and Charles William Royster of Baton Rouge, La.; two grandchildren, William Swearingen IV and Sean Swearingen; and a sister, Margaret McKinley of Cookeville, Tenn. The Rev. Eileen Lindsay will officiate at the memorial service Saturday at 2 p.m. at The United Methodist Church of Davis, 1620 Anderson Road.
