Born Nov. 2, 1911, in Winters, he was 90 years old. A veteran of World War II, where he proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, he worked for Standard Oil Co. of California as a welder for 31 years. He was married to Juanita Thompson for more than 50 years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spent his retirement years traveling throughout the United States and Canada. He belonged to the Elks Club in Berkeley and the Berkeley Sons in Retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Edith Poppe; his wife, Juanita Poppe; and his brother William H. Poppe. He is survived by two nieces, Barbara Barlow of Utah and Linda Scheive of Sacramento. Friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday at the Winters Cemetery, 415 Cemetery Drive. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Winters Health Care Foundation at 7 Main St., Winters, CA 95694. Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Chapel.
