Rogers A resident of Kailua-Kona, Abigail Josephine (Narrod) Rogers died on Sept. 14, 2002, from breast and bone cancer. She was 69. Born on Feb. 28, 1933, in Pleasant Hill, Tenn., she was the youngest child of Floyd and Jimmie Mae Norrod. She was raised in Crossville, Tenn., and graduated from Cumberland County High School. She was the first in her family to receive a college degree which she earned from Tennessee Tech University. After college, she taught at the Tennessee School for the Blind in Nashville and then lived with her sister, Flodine (Norrod) Sehl and family in Connecticut where she taught at Windsor Locks High School. In her 20s, she became a stewardess for Transocean Airlines and staffed flights to Europe and the Pacific Islands. This was an exciting time in her life. She was stationed out of Oakland where she met and married William B. Rogers. They were married for 42 years. During their time together, they maintained homes in Pleasanton and Santa Cruz, Incline Village, Nevada and Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. They raised one child, Tracy J. (Rogers) Beckwith in Santa Cruz. She was an extremely devoted mother and wife and was known for her southern hospitality, unique laugh, beauty and gentle nature. She was preceded in death by her oldest sister, Jewell Garrett. She is survived by her husband, Bill Rogers of Kona, Hawaii; her daughter Tracy Beckwith and her husband James; grandchildren Bryce, William, and Spencer of El Macero. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Philip Sehl of Wethersfield, Conn.,; brother Paul Norrod of Crossville, Tenn. Funeral services were held on Saturday at the Davis Community Church. The family has asked that donations be made in her honor to the UC Davis Cancer Center, 4501 X St., Sacramento, CA 95817.
