Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net August 7, 2004, 10:06 pm "The Davis Enterprise," Wednesday, August 21, 2002 Francis 'Frank' McDermott Longtime Davis resident Francis "Frank" McDermott died on Aug. 19, 2002. Born on Oct. 1, 1925, in Providence, R.I., he was 76 years old. He returned home from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1945 and soon after married his beautiful wife Muriel. The couple moved to Amarillo, Texas, and raised eight of their nine children before moving to Northern California where their last child was born. A rare man among men, he valued loyalty to family and friends above all else. He had wisdom and charm and pulled no punches. He was honest whether his honesty was politically correct or not. He was an avid sports fan and a great athlete. One of his greatest joys in life was watching his own children and grandchildren play sports. For many years, he was a familiar face at the Davis High School football stadium. He was affectionately known as "Gramps," "Stud Muffin" and "Frankie-Doodle." Those who were fortunate enough to have met him knew his quick wit, warm smile and dancing Irish eyes. He deeply touched the hearts of many. His family will be eternally proud of him and hold him forever in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his son, Patrick McDermott, and his grandson, Pat McDermott. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Muriel McDermott. He was a devoted and loving father of Susan Walgenbach and her husband Wayne, Tim McDermott, Geri Anderson and her husband Pat, Therese Cantrell and her husband Randy, Kathy Klenzendorf and her husband Chuck, Joan McDermott, Fran McDermott and his wife Sandra, and Robert McDermott. He was the loving grandfather of Christine Evans, Nicole Rockwell and her husband Grant, Ashley Walgenbach, Sean McDermott, Heather McDermott, Tara McDermott, Lyndsay Cantrell, Brett Stewart, Michael McDermott, Nick Cantrell and Kevin Klenzendorf. He is further survived by great-grandchildren Daniel and Courtney Slack and Michelle Evans. The rosary will be recited Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church. A reception/Irish wake will follow at Soga's Restaurant in downtown Davis. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Yolo Hospice. Additional Comments: Submitted with the permission of the "The Davis Enterprise," 315 G Street, Davis, CA 95616.
