Irene E. Harris

Irene Emma Harris died at St. John's Retirement Village in Woodland on Aug. 10,
2002, at the age of 93. The oldest of six children, she was born on July 11,
1909, in Nienah, Wis., to the late Louis and Emma Meyer.

In 1926, she married her husband, Ralph G. Harris, in Douglas, Wyo., and moved
to Esparto in 1929. The couple moved to Woodland in 1936.

A homemaker all of her adult life, she also worked as a library clerk at Beamer
School and Lee School. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and
worked as a Pink Lady with the Woodland Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a
member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 60 in Woodland.

She also taught needlework through the Woodland Senior Center. She enjoyed
gardening, poetry and music, especially classical, big band and gospel music.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Donald Harris; grandson, Dean
Perkins; two brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her son, Lowell "Lew" Harris and his wife Billie of Woodland;
daughters Dolores Perkins of Yuma, Ariz. and Carol Leedy and her husband Craig
of Sacramento; daughter-in-law Geri Harris of Sacramento. Also surviving her are
nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by her brother, Lewis Meyer of Casper, Wyo.

A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Monument Hill Memorial
Park in Woodland.
