Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net August 8, 2004, 7:53 pm "The Davis Enterprise," Friday, July 26, 2002 Sidney B. Hubbard Recently diagnosed with cancer, Sidney Bartholomew Hubbard died July 7, 2002, from a diabetic shock. He was 56 years old. He was born June 8, 1946, in Niagara Falls, N.Y. In 1968, he graduated from the University of Rochester with a bachelor's degree in history. Upon graduation, he served two years in the Peace Corps in Zambales, the Philippines, where he met his wife Justice. In 1973, he earned his juris doctor degree from Boston University and later went to work as an attorney for the Inter-Tribal Council of California. While he maintained his membership in the California State Bar, he had not practiced law in more than a decade at the time of his death. He lived life to the beat of his own drum. He brought his wife to the United States after his Peace Corps stint and together they fought the racism that mixed couples sometimes face. At one time, he became personally responsible for bringing dozens of Justice's family members to this country. He believed himself to be part of the civil rights movement and often provided pro bono legal assistance to those who felt they were oppressed. For the last decade, he fought and won the battle of drug and alcohol addiction, remaining clean and sober for the last several months of his life. Though he remained homeless for those months, he was known to literally give the shirt off his back to help someone else in need. He is survived by his children, Bart, Sidney and Ruby Hubbard; their mother, J.D. Asis, formerly J.D. Hubbard; and grandchildren, John, Grey, Brandon, Amer, Allurai and Elaney. He is further survived by his uncle, Horatio Seaward; brothers, George and John Hubbard; stepsisters, Janet Wilson and Katherine Smythe; stepbrothers, William and Robert Kaczoe; stepmother, Florence Hubbard; and many nephews, nieces and loving friends. A memorial service was held at Mount Vernon Memorial Park Church of the Valley on July 20. He will be interred Saturday in Niagara Falls Memorial Park in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
