Perazzo pbperazzo@comcast.net August 20, 2004, 10:59 pm "The Davis Enterprise," Friday, June 28, 2002 Neva C. Fassenfelt Neva (Cross) Fassenfelt died on June 21, 2002, in Davis. She was 85. She was born on Dec. 22, 1916, in Dighton, Kan. She graduated from Salem High School, married Louie Cross in 1935, and lived in Oregon until 1952, when her husband was drafted into the Korean War. The family moved to Whittier, and, 16 years later, they moved to Lake Almanor, where she sold real estate and helped her husband manage their Crossroads restaurant. She was famous for the fruit cobblers she made daily for nearly 10 years. After her husband's death in 1981, she moved to Portland, Ore. There, she married Les Fassenfelt, who died in 1995. In March 2001, she moved to Davis and was an Alzheimer's patient at the University Retirement Community. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Sharon and Elliott Rose of Davis, Kay and Bill Johnson of Portland, and Herb and Lois Cross of Dixon. She was devoted to and loved by her grandchildren: Amy Sparks of Seattle, Robynne Rose and Tom McDonagh of Sacramento, Sara Acuna of Portland, Kathy and Paul Settles of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Cynthia Sparks of Portland, Jennifer and Luis Fernandez of Bend, Ore., Michelle Cross of San Diego and Taylor Cross of Dixon. There are also five great-grandchildren who will also miss her smiles, her love and her winning personality. She is also survived by three sisters, one brother and their spouses: Ada Mae Hurd of Salem, Loretta and Charles Harris of Portland, Estelene and Wally Hancock of Huntington Beach, and Bob and Pam Smith of Salem. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Juanita Curry and brother-in-law Bill Cross, both of whom live in Salem, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral and burial will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Belcrest Cemetery in Salem, Ore. The family requests that donations in her memory be made to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, CA 95617.
