Hunt A memorial service will be held Tuesday afternoon for Laureene Lillard Hunt, a native of Davis, who died June 18, 2002, after a lengthy battle with emphysema. She was 83 years old. She was descended from the Tufts, Hoag and Lillard families, and was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Hoag and Walter Lillard; her brother, Emery Lillard; her sister, Beth Schwartz; and her husband, Burch Hunt. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Helvick; granddaughter, Dana Helvick; and great-granddaughter, Whitney Helvick. She is also survived by her sister, Flo Nelson; sister-in-law, Jean Lillard; extended family member Reggie Hodge; and numerous nieces and nephews. She had a full life filled with many activities. A graduate of Davis High School in 1937, she was instrumental in setting up many class reunions. She was inducted into the Woodland Hall of Fame as a member of Emil's girls' softball team, which won the state championship in 1941. She was active with California Girls' State for more than 40 years, helping to bring it to UC Davis for many years. She was recognized for her years of service by the national organization of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a longtime member of the Women's Golf Club at Davis Municipal Golf Course as well as the Woodland Bowling Association. Working on the UC Davis campus for 37 years, she became well-known to many students and staff members alike. Both Laureene and her husband Burch were active with the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, chaperoning many functions, including the first overnight function the university allowed to Lake Tahoe. She could be seen at numerous sporting events, traveling at times on the team plane, getting hugs from players and food from their parents. The UCD athletic program honored her and her sister Flo on many occasions. At a Hall of Fame banquet, they were presented with gold watches bearing the UCD seal, and at the 2000 season football banquet, the highlight film was dedicated to the two sisters, both true Aggie fans. She wasn't only a fan of UCD, she was, more importantly, the No. 1 fan for her family in all their activities and accomplishments. She was proud of her roots in Davis, being the third generation born here, and her great-granddaughter Whitney, who is the sixth generation born in Davis. It gave her great pride the years that four generations lived together. In celebrating her life, a memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Davis Community Church, 412 C St. A reception will follow at the church's Fellowship Hall. Private graveside services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Emery Lillard Football Grant-in-Aid Fund (contact Marci Pieratt at 752-0188), to the Cal Aggie Marching Band Endowment Campaign (contact Bella Corbin at 757-3208) or to the donor's favorite charity.
